Does the Tivo work with the ntl digital IR system...

Yes, and Yes, with an extra component.

The Tivo can drive most NTL Pace STBs OK, but for one model an extra
dongle is needed, which you can buy from Tivo.

For 1000 and 2000 Pace boxes you need either a Tivo dongle or a Red-Eye translator
For 4000s you may or may not - these boxes support standard RC5 IR, but reliability can be variable.
They should work reliably with a dongle or Red-Eye

4001 boxes (blue remote) should work directly as they used standard RC5 IR
