TTWOT - Is it me? by Woody[_4_]
Has anyone noticed that more and more light bulbs - especially the 18/20/23W PLCs - are now ES? I was in Morrison's yesterday and about 80% of all bulbs on display were E14 or E27, mostly the latter. Homebase next door this afternnon were not much different. Have you ever tried to buy an ES pendant lampholder? Admittedly Clas Ohlsen (if you live near a branch) will charge you 2.29 for...

TOT as usual: train spotters by Bill Wright[_2_]
I visited the National Railway Museum the other day. The other visitors were mostly family groups and old age pensioners. However a third group was noticeably well-represented. These were groups of men who seemed to want to cling together. They were largely dishevelled, unshaven, spotty, and dressed the way people in the fifties used to dress their adult mentally-handicapped sons. They had...

Viewing Humax Fox-T2 files on my PC. by Rick[_10_]
AIUI I should be able to play recorded programmes on my Fox -T2 Freeview receiver and view them on my network connected PC. The Fox-T2 doesn't appear to have any difficulty in finding my PC and will play video and music files from it on my main TV perfectly OK. However, no matter what I do in the network configuration (in both Vista and Windows7) I simply can't get my PC to see the Fox-T2,...

Incandescent bulbs - decision, plus Edison Screw question by Steve Thackery[_2_]
I never thought this would happen, but yesterday I took my big box of beloved incandescent bulbs (household bulbs, not specialist ones) down to the tip. In that box was my entire stock of CFLs, too, although they were emphatically *not* beloved. I've been installing LED bulbs in various places around the home, and I'm so impressed by them there just seems to be no point in using anything else...

Information Update - Humax PVR-9200T by Paul_Jones
There is still no Humax 9200 software update but Humax have informed me there should be one as soon as possible and are close to resolution (so pretty much the same as they have been saying for the last few months). They have suggested trying a reset (yeah, right). I cannot try it 'again' as I got so ****ed off I busted the remote. I have asked Humax for a free replacement but they were not to...

Ofcom Think BBC Should Start Subscription! by DAB sounds worse than FM
http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/story/0,7493,1199915,00.html "The regulator suggested that where BBC services have a big budget but small audiences, subscription should be considered as an alternative source of funding to the licence fee - which could be bad news for digital TV channels such as BBC3, BBC4 and BBC News 24. "Where a high cost of delivery is associated with low viewing...

Freeview 'not up to the job', says Sky by Grappler
Freeview 'not up to the job', says Sky (MediaGuardian) BSkyB today said Freeview was not fit to lead Britain into the digital TV future, describing it as "an analogue platform with not very convincing go faster stripes". The satellite broadcaster accused the BBC of promoting Freeview at the expense of its digital rivals, including Sky, and said the corporation was guilty of "structural...

BUSH Freesat HD Box by Lucky13[_2_]
Total crap. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5321564/Trail/searchtext%3EBUSH+FREESAT.htm It's put me off the Freesat platform a little as well to be honest. I found the picture worse than Freeview (maybe it was the cheap HDMI cable versus the built in freeview of my samsung 42 inch plasma). The menus were horrible, the EPG was god awful.... the remote control had sharp...

Humax DTR-T1010 playing up again by Jeff Layman[_2_]
A few weeks back I posted about problems I was having with this box. They seemed to resolve after powering off overnight. This morning I noticed the box was on, but it should have been off. I remember turning it off last night. It did not respond to the remote, and the only thing showing on the display was "FULL" (if that is supposed to refer to the HD, it's wrong, as it is 86% empty). On...

Problem using a double scart adapter by Ben
Rob Beattie wrote: I recently bought a dvd player so that I could start watching homemade vcd, dvds, etc on the tv and as my tv had a scart input I bought a scart cable as well. The tv was already connected to an ondigital nokia box via it's scart connector so I went out and bought a double scart adapter. After hooking it all up together I find that when both pieces of equipment are...

digital switchover by Geoff Pearson
What do they do in the two weeks between Steps 1 and 2? It seems a clunky way of doing the job - bet they didn't do that in other countries (we seem to be amongst the last)..

External Cable Cover by Dickie Mint
Vaguely remember some time ago, maybe, someone mentioned a source of cover for the entry point of a Sat cable on the outside wall of a house. Thought it was Screwfix, but can't find anything there. Nothing in Maplins either. Richard

Understanding CAI benchmarked aerial categories by Basil
How much stock do the professional installers place in the CAI aerial benchmarking scheme? I receive DTT from Reigate 6 miles away, which seems to be powered by an AA battery, plus I'm in a dip behind some trees. Installers hate my site and won't guarantee anything when quoting. I'm willing to stick up my own aerial. I've installed my own dish, used reasonable PF100 cables etc, carefully...

Sky "Searching for listings" by Dickie mint[_2_]
On another forum this was posted; "Over the past week, OH has noticed that as he changes channels on Sky, instead of it instantly telling him what programme is on, it invariably puts up the phrase 'searching for listings' and takes up to 10 seconds to put up the information. Is anyone else finding this happening, or is it possible there is a problem with our box? " Anyone else? Richard

InView EPG to be withdrawn - DigiFusion / Thomson PVRs affected by larkim
Not sure if the message has been seen here, but my beloved Thomson DHD4000 will cease to have a working EPG in a couple of weeks time as InView (the company responsible for broadcasting the old 4TV EPG overnight) are withdrawing their service. I believe this also affects Digifusion PVRs (not all models) and at least on Sony PVR. See digitalspy for various threads -...
