Default Top Up TV Anytime Issues

I received this e-mail regarding some of the issues currently affecting the
TUTV Anytime DTR. Might be of interest to those that have one...

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your email.

As you may be aware, the Top Up TV Anytime DTR is currently experiencing a
number of small issues that are affecting the service.

We are aware of the following issues and are attempting to rectify these.

Fixes being worked on:

Video decoder crash (results in LIVE TV black screen and no video in preview
or on playback). Workaround: put box into standby, wait 10s. Reboot.
Trick play (locking at beginning of file & disappearing progress bar)
Video 'glitch' on playback
Video 'glitch' on LIVE TV
Occasional unit crash
Occasional recording failure
Some tuners losing frequencies previously scanned
MHEG improvements - functionality including News Multiscreen (and now
Teletext Sudoku)
Some VOD content missing occasionally
Loss of content after 'save'
Adult/Movies/Drama genres can be confused in Library

Series Link
Swap key

When will these be available?

Although we are hoping to be ready in the first couple of weeks of February,
the release date for a new build will depend upon the progress of each
fix/development and when we believe we have enough properly tested. The
actual date may be sooner or later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Remote control failure

Once you have tried all the obvious things such as replacing the batteries
and testing the 'DTR' 'TV' buttons & reboot, it is possible that there is a
hardware fault on the box. Please call customer service for help.

Unit stuck in boot?

Please note that if the unit has to be power cycled, it loses track of which
files/block are open and which are not. Therefore - on boot - the unit may
have to check every block on the disk. For those of you with a fair bit of
content on the disk, this can take a long-time. Please wait for the amber
light to turn steady red.

Old software versions (pre-V1.8) in field

No one should have a DTR with the software version older than V1.5. If so,
please call Customer services.

FYI versions of the software pre-1.5 will not currently take the V2.00
Non-functioning boxes take download? - Boxes that cannot scan the TUTV
channels may indeed be able to take the download.

Force the download

You can't 'force' the download to happen immediately. The fastest way to do
it is to put the DTR into standby with no scheduled recordings and wait for
a couple of hours. Taking the box out of standby should activate the new
code image.
Tuner conflicts at strange times? ? This usually means that Top Up TV
Anytime content is being downloaded in the background. Recording indicators
are not shown by the Top Up TV Anytime downloads.

EPG download time

The Top Up TV Anytime EPG is currently downloaded to the DTR at 23:00. This
time is signalled to the box in a small configuration file which is
broadcast 24 hours a day and contains details of the Top Up TV Anytime
channels, icons, disk quota requirements and other configuration details.

No card, no functions

If you have paid a discounted price for the DTR and stop subscribing (or
remove the card) some DTR functions will cease to work. When you buy the DTR
or pass your contract milestone these functions are released.

Chase play

This is working in V2.00. Please note that impulse record will pull in the
entire buffer file (it doesn't yet know what you want to keep) but on
completion of the recording the file will be trimmed to the details set in
the EIT/Anytime schedule. If you use 'watch from start' on an impulse
recording therefore, you will see the whole buffer from the start until the
programme has finished and transfers to your library.

Audio/Video over (or under) EPG

This is very difficult to implement as the tuners are busy in the background
and sometimes need interaction. For instance, you are watching BBC1, you
press Guide and hear the audio. Suddenly the unit needs to tune off for a
recording elsewhere. It needs to know whether you're OK with this and the
audio will obviously change. It's not impossible it's just messy and we
don't think it's a high-priority.

USB port for archiving

All content on the disk is encrypted so will only play back on that unit.
All content on an external disk would also be encrypted but could be used to
archive for that particular unit. We are looking into uses for the USB port
and will be commissioning drivers for it when we have completed our
discussion (and when we have finished the ongoing development).
Unreliable schedules - We are working with our content providers to ensure
that the schedules are reliable.

Information regarding V2.00 and reasons for update:

We judged (as some of you have indicated) that you would rather have the
boxes before Christmas than after and therefore we released with what we
believed to be an acceptable standard of software. The most pressing fix
after launch was for the multi-transmitter scan. This version was made ready
by about the 22nd but a problem was found in it, which made personally
scheduled recordings unreliable. We were then out of time to deliver a new
build over air before the Christmas lock-down and spent the intervening time
fixing this and wrapping in some other improvements to V2.00.

Please be aware that we are currently working to resolve all of these issues
and should your issue not be mentioned in either the fixes or FAQs, please
let us know by reply or by calling 08712 712 712 between 8am and 10pm, 7
days a week.

Kind Regards,

Top Up TV

very interesting - thank you
Have had my box for a week now and not found any of these problems
My only disappointment is I cannot automagically record the 6'o clock
news every night.
