I'm about to move home over quite a distance. Is there a "shut down"
procedure to protect the HDD in the machine or is it just OK to turn off and unplug. You can put it in standby if you like... but it won't do any good. Unplug it at the wall and leave it for five minutes to let the discs stop spinning. Terry |

Modern drives are self-parking (do they even respond to the "park" command any more?) and should spin down within a couple of seconds. Given that they all get moved around the world after manufacture, and some get delivered by a postman, which must be worse, I doubt that any car trip would damage them. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these.
