Default Old round dish, location of it any use to get freesat

Hi group, I want to move up to a freesat (not the free from sky version)
PVR, I think I'll get the Humax FoxSat HDR.

From my understanding I'll buy the box and will need a min of twin LNB
to feed the Hummy that way i can record one channel while watching
another, I know the old "round" dish will work with freesat IF I buy a
new twin but more then likely quad universal LNB and move it to pick up
new signal, my main question is given where my old dish was pointed will
I have to move it much to pick up the new stuff for freesat and also is
there any chance i can get anything else like hotbird?

Sorry for such a newbie question but been out of this field for many
years now.

To view freesat channels you need a dish pointed to 28,2 East. It doesnt
give you channels from hotbird or any other satellites if you buy twin or
quad LNBs. On the other hand if you buy new dish (multifeed) and new LNBs
you may be able to pick many satellites without even moving a dish.

You don't need to move a dish currently feeding a $ky box if you
change to Freesat; it is the same group of satellites and most of the
free services are the same signals switched by a different programme
guide. As for HotBird and Astra 19deg you should be able to pick them
up on the same dish (60-90cm) using the three LNBs on an appropriate
bracket with the dish itself aimed at 19deg or thereabouts and the
LMBs appropriately offset (IIRC some brackets might not let you fit an
LNB at the dish's normal focus point). Assuming a fixed dish then
there might not be much point in replacing the 28deg twin LNB with a
quad unless you intend to feed another receiver. For HotBird and Astra
19deg you can use two ordinary LNBs (and one feed of the Astra 28deg
LNB) on a Diseqc switch to feed the relevant input on a Humax box;
HotBird and Astra 19 services will need to be set up as "non-Freesat"
channels, they will have a limited "now and next" EPG and you won't be
able to set timed recordings but you will be able to make manual
recordings.

Ideally you should bodge up a temporary dish to maintain existing
services while perfecting the above as it will be guaranteed to rain
even if you don't spend some time getting all three LNBs aimed
properly.

As for HotBird and Astra 19deg, if you have enough inputs on the
television and the extra bit of cable is no bother then plan B might
be to use a cheap ordinary satellite receiver (fed from the Diseqc
switch, the Astra 28deg cables going direct to the Humax) for them
rather than the Humax. This avoids the trouble of the Humax not being
able to record Freesat channels while you use it to watch non-Freesat
channels.

That's what we've just done.
Got a quad LNB + 2nd cable installed, connected the Hummy up and
all up and running first time.
