Default Thomson Sky+ PSU

Our Thomson Sky+ box (3 years old) has been been responding more and more
slowly to the remote and over the past week channels have been disappearing:
Sky One 106, Sky News 501, Disc 241, Disc 242 and many others.

After Googling, I decided with some scepticism to try replacing all the
capacitors in the PSU. An hour with the soldering iron and normal service is
resumed.

Out of the 15 capacitors, 4 were bulging, 1 very badly. A worthwhile fix!

That is exactly my experience too. A random list of channels (not
specific to a satellite or transponder), which slowly gets bigger over
time, shows more and more breakup or "No signal" messages. More
crashes, more failed recordings, and it gets slowly worse over the
coming months. You replace the capacitors using a kit from sat-cure (I
think), and it's all fine again.

That's the bit I didn't understand. Why the list of missing channels was so
random and a great selection of error messages too!
I sourced my own top quality capacitors for about eight pounds or so.

High/low voltage switching of the LNB affected ?

I suspected this too. Most of the channels missing on mine were H
polarised. But... not all.

Also interference from the PSU at a specific frequency, caused by the
capacitors not working, could affect the decoder or interceder with
the signal only on specific frequencies.
