Default Record only once

Amstrad DRX890 Sky+ HD box (but we don't have the HD service). I set the
box to record something on Series Link because I want the whole series.
It gets the original showing of each episode but also gets the repeat
later on in the week, which in turn causes a recording clash because the
box is already recording something else at that time. How do I get it to
stop doing this and only get the original showing of each episode?

TIA

I've never encountered this problem before. Everything I've ever
series linked has added the next episode automatically at the same
day/time the following week. So for example, if I'm wanting to record
a show that's on at say Monday at 9pm and repeated on Tuesday at 11pm,
and I series link the Tuesday at 11pm one, then it will always record
it at Tuesday 11pm, and vice versa.

My best guess is that you've series linked both showings at some
point. The next episode is automatically added to your planner once
the current episode starts (or ends?). So if you've series linked the
repeat, then the repeat will continue to record every week. If you've
series linked the original showing, then this ALSO will continue to
record every week. So what you need to do is look in your planner
where your recordings are, scroll through the ones that are set to
record in the future, and you'll probably find two entries for the
show you're talking about. One of them will be the repeat. Delete this
one, leaving just the original showing set to record.

On the other hand, SOMETIMES repeat showings are automatically series
linked from a given show deliberately. I've had this on a number of
shows where there were technical problems (e.g. no audio) and I was
surprised to find that the repeat was added on just the episodes that
had messed up. I figured this was a good thing as it meant I always
had a working recording of a show.

I've read somewhere that deleting a scheduled recording doesn't (or
maybe doesn't always) remove the series link. If that's true, you should
delete first the series link and then the scheduled recording.

May be wrong though, haven't knowingly tried it.

Ha, that was it Vincent, thank you very much sir :-)

This is purely because it might seem like that to some people. For
example, if you put a show that's on fortnightly into the planner and
series link it, then it'll record. The next episode (two weeks later)
will be added to the planner, but you can't see it yet because the
planner only shows up to a week ahead. So when the person deletes the
show, there is no evidence of it in the planner. A week later it
magically appears again.

What's important here is that the Sky box only adds the next episode
to the planner when the current episode has started. You can see this
by adding a daily show to your planner. You don't see 7 episodes in
your planner ever, you only see the one that's due to record next.

To un-series link a show you have to do one of two things. You have to
either delete it or turn series link off on it. But whichever you do,
you MUST do that on the episode that is DUE to record. Doing it an
episode that has already recorded does nothing to the series link.
Similarly, deleting an episode that has already recorded does not
remove the next episode from the planner. Not performing these actions
on the next unrecorded episode is the mistake many people make.

OK, my suggestion was based only on folklore so I'll bow to your
superior knowledge.
