What happens if you stuff the card back in ? (and how do you know the box
thinks you're somewhere as specific as Leicester ?!)

No, I'm done thanks, it's just that you seem to have the only Sky box in
existence that defaults to Cen East without a card ?

I stand corrected - ITV Central W, so Birmingham as against Leicester.

To be fair, that's where I got the box, so that's not a shock, but it
card I had was Meridian-coded.

The equipment is yours from the day you bought it.

The recording facility is a software feature and you have to subscribe to sky
to have it activated.

And an ex-subscription Sky card will still receive free-to-view
channels anyway, so you'll also get the softscrambled channels like
Channel 5 HD, Viva, Sony, etc..
