I've had a standard sky box for about 3 years, with movie packagage. I
called sky last week to cancel, the movies and they offered me a free sy +
hd box with free install. I though no way whats the catch. Well it was
installed today no hitches and a decent install to. Even put a new dish, new
cable, gromits, got better signal quality. Very happy indeed.

Still I called sky to drop my movie package to 2 mix and match channels

This sky + anytime is pretty nifty

I wonder why they did it ...

New Gromits? Does Wallace know about this?

Simple. They make huge margins on everything paid, so once in a
while (pro rata) someone like you comes along threatening to
cancel. They make you an offer you can't refuse and you stay.
Small cost to them, but it makes their figures (and possibly
bottom line) look better and in time you make start to pay them
for things like HD movies and/or sport from which they make huge
margins.......

Remember that song 'There's A Hole In The Bucket...........?"

I'd never seen that as a parable, any more than "The Gas Man Cometh".

Wallace has been kept in the dark about it. Say nothing
