I recorded all series 4 on Series Link (apart from episode 6 - second of
a double, which did not record). Have now started to watch them. Episodes 1-3 OK. Today, went to watch episode 4, which turned out to be episode 10. Further investigation shows what I thought would be episode 5 is actually 8. Episodes 7 - 10 are as billed, then the final, double episode 11/12 as expected (except name of first part not as on web). Clearly, the planner index has been corrupted. If I re-build it, will I lose other recordings? If not, how is a re-build effected? -- George from Cartland |

Are these fairly old recordings ? I don't know why it happens. However, I suspect that every programme on the Sky+ hard drive might have a unique serial number (or similar identification), which extracts and displays the programme description from the Sky EPG transmission. If Sky re-use old serial numbers from time to time, then programme descriptions will change. I doubt whether your planner index has become corrupted. However, a Sky+ re-build (as opposed to a system reset) will do no harm and you should not lose any recordings. Although a Sky+ receiver operates differently from a personal computer, the Sky+ rebuild option performs a similar function to de-fragmenting a computer hard drive. A system reset wipes all existing and planned recordings, and performs a similar function to re-formatting a computer hard drive. |

I have programmes from 8 months ago still in the planner (keep meaning to transfer them over to my DVD/HDD recorder but not got the round tuit needed yet) and I've never seen this. How long are you talking? |

This is hardly a long time ago; the programme ids should not be re0suesed yet? In any case, it doesn't explain why earlier episodes - which recorded OK - were replaced by later ones (unless the re-use of ids causes the Sky box to panic and look for the nearest fit?) You're right. No effect on recordings. IIRC whne sky plus came in Sky where accused of 'stealing' recording capacity by reserving half of your HD for anytime. Even though I knew I wouldn't get the capacity back, I switched my anytime off as I didn't use it and I figured that less HD use the longer it would last. Mike |
