Default Sky Anytime + VoD

As a Sky TV/Talk/broadband customer, I received an e-mail from them today
inviting me to sign up for Anytime +, video on demand.

I've done so and the system seems great - and all for free! I could have
opted for the £40 engineer set-up - but as set-up simply involves plugging
an ethernet cable in between the HD box and the router (which, in my case,
was already behind the TV), I gave that a pass!

AIUI, the on-demand downloads will be in SD only, which is a shame - but
it's hard to criticise a free service.

At present it is restricted to customers on Sky's LLU Broadband as
well.

Both this issue and providing HD downloads are going to be looked
at sometime after launch (they say!).

That's good!

Within the new 'Anytime +' interface, there is a 'Showcase' section. This is
the equivalent of the 'old' Anytime - and the programmes/movies in that
section are already downloaded and are in HD. Any programme or movie in the
other sections that you choose to download are in SD.

It may be simply a question of bandwidth I suppose. Downloading HD movies
will be much slower and take up a lot more bandwidth. I note that Sky
Broadband's 'fair useage' policy asks you to avoid large downloads during
peak hours (5pm - midnight). No mention of this when downloading for Anytime
+ however.
