Sky HD Thompson PSU Capacitor kits
Lots of these being sold £ 9.00 on eBay, suggest it solves the non
recording, low signal, hang-reboot problems
Anyone with any thoughts, experiences, warnings etc ?
TIA

As my Thomson Sky HD has had *NONE* of the problems you describe in 3-years
of loyal service (and an upgrade to a 1Tb HDD) they are not at all intrinsic
to this make!

Despite this reliability I also HAVE a capacitor kit - to fit sometime when
the spirit moves me!

According to Satcure, all Thompson PSUs made before 2008 have the
poor quality "CapXon" capacitors. This caused problems, which
affected many (but not all) Thomson Sky HD and Sky+ receivers.
See www.satcure.co.uk/tech/thom_psu.htm.

Satcure might charge a lot more than £9 for replacement
capacitors. However, they claim to use the best quality
components that are presently available.

Satcure warn against "COPYCAT KITS ON EBAY! and elsewhere".
Satcure make a profit from the sale of repair kits and
replacement PSUs, so in the words of Mandy Rice Davies, "they
would say that, wouldn't they?" However, I can confirm that
following my DIY installation of a replacement PSU from Satcure,
I have experienced no further problems.
