Our box is making some very funny noises and we cannot record or access the EPG or anything. Pressing any button other than numbers to change channel hangs it. Wife phoned Sky and the box was reset during the conversation so bang goes everthing we had recorded, not that we could access it anyway, and it didn't fix it. Anyway service man is comming out tomorrow and for £65 we will be left with a working system. We have had the box since Feb 2009, so approx 20 months before it failed. Is there any chance or way that we can approch customerservices and get it replace foc on the basis that it should last longer than that? Regards. Bill. |

A typical Sky HD subscription costs £61 per month - or £71 per
month with multi-room. Sky want to collect your viewing subscription for many years to come, because that is how they make their profits. Consequently, it would be in their interests to waive the usual charge for a repair or replacement to retain your business. You should have complained from the outset that the receiver should have lasted much longer than 20 months. Then, you should have told Sky emphatically that you were not prepared to pay for the service call - and warned them that unless they agree to replace the receiver FOC, you would cancel your Sky subscription and move to Virgin Media. That sometimes does the trick. Unfortunately, you have already agreed to pay £65 for a service call. Furthermore, the service operative is coming tomorrow - so it is probably too late to cancel the service call. You could try to negotiate a refund, but I fear that having booked the £65 service call, you have weakened your negotiating position seriously. "bill" wrote in message ...
