Default Sky Magic Eye

Hi Group,

Many of us use the Sky Magic eye to watch SKY programmes on a second or more
sets via the RF2 outlet on the sky box.

This is fed into the analogue tuner of the second set. What happens when all
TV receivers are 100% Digital? How will we be able to continue to use this
facility?

Roger

By that time your sky box will be long dead. Maybe future sky boxes will
be fitted with DLNA as some Freeview/Freesat boxes already are.

You won't be able to use this facility.

Output from the Sky RF2 socket is analogue. If the TV doesn't
have an analogue tuner, it won't accept analogue input via an RF
lead. But you knew that already.

To make it work, you would probably need to fit an 'Analogue to
Digital' video converter or an 'Analogue to Scart' converter.
But I don't know whether there are any on the market. A Google
search against 'Analogue to Digital Converter' produced a few
hits, but none of them was particularly relevant. Furthermore, I
doubt whether there would be much demand for such a device. A
device at
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet%C2%AE-A...tp_st_edpp_url
is out of stock.

TVs with twin tuners will probably remain available for many
years to come. Alternatively, a wireless audio/video sender
(which uses Scart connectors) would allow you to view pictures in
another room. See
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?...a=video+sender for suitable
devices.

If you're really worried about it, buy one or two of the cheapest acceptable
size analogue capable TV's you can get your hands on NOW. That should last
you the rest of your life! Unless of course, you're very young!
Even now, most TVs sold today still are capable of both analogue and
digital.

Those of us in areas with no analogue broadcasts and no devices supplying
such signals wish we could remove the tuner from the list of sources
through which some TVs cycle. Even an in-built DTT tuner is an annoyance
to some.

You could, of course, connect the eye to the aerial input of an old, (even
mechanically broken), VCR, tune the VCR into it and take a scart connection
from the VCR to a digital tv....
