Guys
Advice please. We have the original old Sky Box in Spain.A friend of mine has given me his Sky + box. As we have Sky HD here in the UK, could I not take the Sky+ box to Spain and put up an additional cable to the LNB and watch and record using my UK Sky card which I can take with me . Other say it may be better to just buy a Freesat +Box in HD, but without a Sky card my channel options are limited ? Thanking you all. Dee |

If you insert a valid UK Sky card in the Sky+ receiver, you will
be able to view free-to-air, free-to-view and non-premium subscription channels. However, the card will also need to be paired to the Sky+ box, before you can view any premium channels (such as Sky Movies and/or Sky Sports). To pair a card to a different receiver and activate the Sky+ record/playback functions, you would need to connect the box to a working dish & LNB, insert the viewing card, and telephone Sky to request the pairing. Any telephone phone call to Sky MUST come from the UK - and not from Spain. Although I'm not 100% certain, I also suspect the card would need to be paired to the Sky+ box, before you could use any of the record / playback functions. However, I doubt whether it would be a good idea to pair your existing Sky HD card to the Sky+ box. If you do so, your card will no longer provide full functionality in the HD box. I suggest you perform a simple test in the UK, before you take the Sky+ box and your card to Spain. Connect the Sky+ box to your dish, to check whether you can playback and/or record programmes, even if you haven't paired the card to your Sky+ box. If so, you could take the card and receiver to Spain. Otherwise, there would be no point. On a separate matter, you should never disclose your real email address in a public newsgroup. It is too late to do anything about it now. However, you run the risk of being overwhelmed by massive volumes of junk mail. Furthermore, Sky employees probably read this newsgroup. Consequently, they will know that you are contemplating taking a UK viewing card to Spain (which would be a serious breach of your contract terms and conditions). That simply isn't true, I've been posting from this real email address for years and yet get very little spam. -- Adrian (Owned by Bagheera & Shadow) Cats leave pawprints on your heart http://community.webshots.com/user/clowderuk |

It depends on your ISP. Some have effective spam filters. Nothing to do with my ISP, I've been using the same address with different ISPs for about 15 years. -- Adrian |

But not everyone relies on their ISP to provide it - in fact it's a bad idea in my opinion. |

In the case of the email address I'm talking about is entirely separate from my ISP, which should be obvious from my reply. -- Adrian |

Any company that provides a service on the Internet is an ISP. That includes email, Usenet, web hosting, VoIP and network access. OK, but you do know that I was really distinguishing between a service provided by the ISP who provides your connection and service provided by "others" (which can of course include yourself). ;-) |
