It is no longer a rumour. Sky Text (Page 192) states, "Over the
next few months, we're mailing new viewing cards to all Sky TV customers". The text page states specifically "Only applicable to Sky TV customers and all Pay TV customers. It does not mention "Freesat from Sky" cards. However, the FAQ at www.skyviewinghelp.com states, "If you do not change your viewing card, you will soon be unable to view the channels which require a viewing card. Such channels include all those to which you subscribe, channels which can be viewed on a pay per view basis, and also Sky3, Channel 4 HD, Five US, Five US +1, Fiver, Fiver +1 and some ITV regional variants". .. |

They send us a new viewing card, we stick it in the box, we watch TV... Why does it warrant any discussion? Or am I missing something? Ian (genuinely puzzled) |

To subscribers it won't matter. To those using expired subscription cards (or FSFS cards older than 3 years) it probably does! |

Ian (genuinely puzzled) There have been rumours in previous threads. Viewers who had purchased a "Freesat from Sky" card (which cost £20 or £19.57 inc VAT) were concerned that they might need to pay for a replacement. Sky have not answered that question. |

There is, surely, zero uncertainty on this point! The rules of the FSFS system say it *WILL* re replaced FOC - but only within 3 years or purchase. |

The key word is "ALL" - because some of the free channels are not available from the Freesat platform. "Free to View" (encoded) channels that are available exclusively via the Sky platform include Sky3, Channel 4 HD, Five US, Five US +1, Fiver, and Fiver +1. To view these channels, you will require a Sky receiver with a viewing card. Some of the ITV regional variants are also encoded. I have no personal knowledge of Foxsat receivers - so I can't state categorically whether they can receive every channel from the alternative Freesat platform. However, the website at www.humaxdigital.com/freesat indicates that Foxsat receivers ARE compatible. You will find a list of available channels at www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=whatson.Main . The Freesat line-up does not include Sky3, Five US, Five US +1, Fiver, Fiver +1 or Channel 4 HD. Channel 4 HD may become available on Freesat in the future but at present, it is only on the Sky platform (viewing card required). |

Did you miss my post last week (in a thread to which you contributed) when I told a poster that this info was on both 998 and www.skyviewinghelp.com ? -- JonPhred |
