Hi
We have upgraded to skyhd, our tv is a 32" philips tv. Ever since the new box was installed we have problems with the screen going black every now and then, for between 2 and 5 seconds. Sky changed the box three times and then replaced it with a thompson box. We tried HDMI cables and y, pb, pr cables and same thing happens. It doesn't happen if a scart cable is used. Sky are blaming Philips and Philips are blaming Sky, Has anyone else heard of this or can shed some light as its driving us nuts. Being piggy in the middle between Sky and Philips is no fun either. Regards Pete |

Regards Pete 32" lcd by any chance? Can't recall if I mentioned it here but I had a 32" philips and basically when the HDMI lead was connected to my DVD recorder, through which my sky box runs, the tv would keep going out like that. But the tell tale was that the recorder actually shows HDMI in its window when it is shaking hands and basically every time the picture went off the machines were shaking hands. Obviously it was a compatibility problem but there were one or two other issues. I emailed Philips and explained the situation and, as the tv was less than a month old they told me to inform the place of purchase and advise them that there was a fault and say they had agreed to a switch. I went with another brand just in case but the replacement (Sharp) has not had the same problem. sounds like you're in a similar boat. -- Paul (We won't die of devotion) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |

Obviously it was a compatibility problem but there were one or two other issues. My Philips 32" has problems deciding which program source it should be displaying. |

I was just glad to get a telly which knew what I was watching and didn't mess around -- Paul (We won't die of devotion) ------------------------------------------------------- Stop and Look http://www.geocities.com/dreamst8me/ |

Sky changed the box three times and then replaced it with a thompson box. Does it only go blank when changing channels between an SD and HD channel (e.g. when viewing Sky One HD and pressing channel up/down), and/or when an SD channel switches between 4:3 and Widescreen (happens a lot when watching old shows and adverts come on which are always in Widescreen)? Just some TVs do exactly what you describe in such circumstances when they have to switch resolutions or aspect ratio. A quick test would be to set the Sky box Resolution to 1080i (instead of Automatic) in the settings. If it is the above cause then the problem will go away when you do this as the Sky box will output 1080i (which is Widescreen) all of the time, and your TV will never change resolution or aspect. If it makes no difference, and given you've had several Sky boxes, and given other people are reporting problems with similar TVs, I'd blame the TV. -- Vincent |

Yes its a 32" lcd, and it seems as though this is a common fault then. A bit more information I can confront Philips with. Thanks |

The screen goes blank at any time, in the middle of programmes and sometimes in quick succession and sometimes a while in between blanks. |
