Default compatability issue Sky hd and Philips tv

It is a problem with the TV.

We had the exact same thing when we installed an HD box for a customer
with a Philips TV (LCD, Ambilight etc).
It caused us a terific problem as we didn't spot it during the
install. The customer called us soon afterwards and complained.
Obviously he thought it was either our fault or the HD box. We went
back, unpaid of course, and the pic was blanking out regularly. We
tried everything. There was no problem if it was connected with scart
and also no problem with the RF feed to a second room. There was also
no problem with HDMI playback from their BlueRay player.
There was a shortage of HD boxes at the time (due to a recall of many
of them) and we had no more in stock so we had to leave the customer
with SD via a the scart lead. When we eventually received more stock
we went back again unpaid, and swapped the box. Results were the same!
Plilips blamed Sky, Sky blamed Philips. Many phone calls followed.
Eventually I took a Tosiba set out to the customer to prove that that
worked ok (unpaid) and told him that it was for him to sort out with
Philips. I was very glad I had not sold the Philips to him!.

Some time later he called me to say that the set had been back to
Philips and had now been redelivered but it had just been left there
without being set up. Would I call over and do it for him! I did go
over and all was well. He did pay me for doing that but obviously the
overall job was a considerable loss for us.
I have to say that, although we dont see many Philips sets these days,
the picture was stunningly good!

Philips are good on quality, but lousy on compatibility. They seem
to have their own proprietry standards and expect the rest of
the world to fall in line. And it is a right pain in the backside
to get them to admit to, or fix, problems.
It ends up with Trading Standards or can I have my money
back, as not fit for the intended purpose, and not as
advertised.
I think they are obsessed with being pan-European and
totally oblivious to individual national requirements, one
size does not fit all markets. Maybe it will be OK
when we are all the Federal Europe superstate.

hi, i've got a Philips widescreen flat TV 32PF5521D 32" LCD and i had
exactly the same problem - screen going blank for 1 or 2 secs then coming
back on. i tried all sorts of things and had multiple Sky engineer visits.
the last engineer looked at the cables and asked me where i got the
connectors on the ends (on the ends of the cables that come from the dish).
i said they were fitted by the engineer Sky sent to install the HD box in
the first place. he said that they were cheap connectors and he replaced
them.

guess what - the problem went away. however, i must just say that he also
replaced the box. so, it was one of 2 things - the connectors or the box. i
reckon it was the connectors.

by the way, i contacted Philips and they said they are not aware of any
compatibility issues with this model.

I sorted out the screen going black by changing the screen settings to
UNSCALED and every time I set it to one of the other settings it goes black.
Philips or Sky just could not find the reason and I only found it by trial
and error.
Philips should be aware as I told them about it 12 months ago but as usual
they denied it was their TV and blamed SKY.

Hi
You shouldn't have a problem now, we have been running for 12 months on
UNSCALED and no problems.
I have from time to time tried changing the TV settings but to no avail and
so it stays on unscaled.
Regards
Pete
