Been getting the 'no satellite signal being received' message for most of
today. Is there a website I can go to which will tell me whether there are any problems with the Sky signal ? By which I mean at the broadcasters end not mine. |

Does the problem apply on all channels? There have been no reception problems in Leicester - so AFAIK, there are no problems with the satellites (or with the signal uploads from broadcasters). Try a re-boot. (Put receiver into standby and disconnect from the electricity supply. After one or two minutes, reconnect to the electricity supply and turn on.) If a re-boot doesn't solve the problem, typical causes might include: Misaligned dish Faulty LNB Obstructed line of sight between your dish and the satellites (trees or vegetation are the usual culprits) Faulty co-ax downlead (physical damage, water ingress or deterioration) Co-ax downlead loose, or not connected securely at the back of the Sky receiver. Faulty Sky receiver. If you can't resolve the problem, Sky charge a flat fee of £65 for a service call by one of their installation engineers. |

Is there a website I can go to which will tell me whether there are any problems with the Sky signal ? By which I mean at the broadcasters end not mine. First question: Tried re-booting your box (by removing the mains supply for 10 seconds) ? Second question: have a look behind the box and see if the LNB cable has pulled out of the plug. Because many Sky installers have not yet mastered the arcane skill of fitting a f plug this is a very common way for Sky to relieve you of £65. Thirrd question: Has the dog chewed the cable? Fourth question: Has the dish been vandalised, or has it got something caught on it, of has someone built something in front of it? The last possibility was the source of much hilarity here recently when we investigated a 'no signal' fault and initially couldn't find the dish. After climbing on the roof as the only way to peer down at the south-east facing wall we saw the dish, facing a new building no more than a metre away and about 50ft higher than the said dish. The solution? There wasn't one. There was absolutely nowhere on the property where there was line-of-sight. Bill |

Thanks all, a re-boot fixed the problem after all. It appeared I wasn't getting a signal on one input, swapping the co-ax still gave a no signal on the same input, so it wasn't the dish or the co-ax. Also the reception was fine on BBC, ITV, C4, C5 and Sky One - just couldn't get any other channel . Just seemed a strange fault that I thought was due to the broadcaster, and as I've only had the box for a month did'nt think it would need re-booting so soon. |

Not a good idea to disconnect/reconnect the co-ax connectors with it powered up BTW, you *might* blow something up. Better to err on the side of caution. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. |

Your original post didn't mention that your problem related to a virtually new Sky+ box. However, I'm pleased a re-boot has resolved the problem - without the inconvenience of a service call. Your problem may have been caused by a one-off glitch with the hardware, firmware or software. Sky+ equipment is similar in some ways to personal computers - which also require re-booting from time to time. Even so, this should not be a frequent requirement - so if problems persist, don't hesitate to book a free service call whilst the box is still under warranty. Incidentally, Sky engineers don't repair faulty boxes in situ. Consequently, the engineer would almost certainly replace your old receiver with a new or reconditioned model. If that happens, you would lose any recordings on the hard drive of the faulty box. |
