Default Can i watch films on my laptop via my sky HD box?

Hi, I've just got a sky hd box and I noticed it has an ethernet port
so does anyone know how if I can watch a film thats on my laptop on my
tv via the ethernet port?

The issues i see are
(a) how do i get my laptop to recognise the SKYHD box as a devise i
can stream a film to?
(b) Is there a particular media player i should use that has a 'play
via external devise' option on it?
(c) do i need to do anything to my sky hd box to recogise that i'm
sending data to it?

I'm not sure i can do this all via an ethernet port, maybe i have to
use the s-video port and the headphone socket on my laptop as an audio
out but the problem with this is rubbish sound quality.

Thanks for your help!
:-)

No, only with a TV-IN on your lappy.

Surely, you mean TV-OUT...?

Anyway, something like the Philips Streamium will allow this, but not
using the Sky's ethernet port.

Note the OP said HD.

There is no way sky are going to let HD content out of the box in a way that
allows films to be copied onto DVD.

So the only way to get HD out of a Sky HD box is via the HDMI port (HDCP
encrypted) or via component (difficult to capture).

For what it's worth, if you insist on thinking he asked how to watch
his Sky on his laptop, then something like this would suffice
http://us.slingmedia.com/page/slingboxpro.html once it becomes
available in the UK.

That he might be, but your response was most inappropriate. If you'd
made such a remark in a physical public place, the consequences would
be different.

PS. Most laptops do not have video *inputs*.

No, he would need a specialist video card. I, like a few others on this
thread, misread it as "watch sky on the laptop" - hence the tv-in thing.

Nobody's yet pointed out the fact that so far the ethernet port on the Sky
HD box does absolutely nothing.

It's here - http://uk.slingmedia.com/page/home - my boss has one. Pretty
good bit of kit - was able to watch Sky+ Content when the box was home in UK
whilst we were away in the USA with work.
