New to sky plus should I have to hit R to record twice ? First time the
banner shows ?

My pace V2 box does likewise. What particular Sky+ box do you have (if you
can't tell, examine Services, System Setup, System Information)

Not sure what you mean by "in".
The first press is like any arrow key or Select, /i.e./ it brings up the
banner. The same action is used to cancel a request. One press might,
therefore, do the opposite of what you want if the recording function
had already been set.

However, "press R to record" only applies when the S&S banner is displayed.

Otherwise pressing R, up, left, right, down, select, or blue all do the
same thing: display the S&S banner.

Mine does. I quote the third sentence "Press _R_ again to confirm the
recording."
