Default Sky + LNB & running another "Unofficial" Cable

After having Sky + installed the other day, my duaghter wanted the old
box wired into her bedroom to watch any FTV programs.

I connected up a cable to one of the free connections on the LNB and
ran it to the box in the bedroom.

All I can get is a message with "No signal is being received"

Is there a special configuration of LNB outlets to use? The 2 running
to the main Sky + box are the outside two with the two in the middle
spare

Use the other spare connection, or swap connections for the Sky + from the
working two to the uncertain pair, does it still work? Don't forget to use
self-amalgamating tape.....

Probably the ****e cable from B&Q, but I'll check the box from
upstairs with the feed I know works as was previously suggested.

It's not ****e - it complies with the stuff Bill says is the best on his Web
site.

The price is approx twice the normal price if you buy 100m from somewhere
sensible.

Disconnect the cable at both ends and use a DVM to check that between the core
and outer screen of the connector is an opencircuit.

You should really do this before connecting the box, as it puts power onto
the cable.

Short the core to the outer screen of the connector at the dish end, a croc
clip or two is good for this and from the box end make sure there is a good
short circuit.

If those work, as others have suggested, check the box with a known working
cable.

Also try to get some of the screw on F connectors, crimp connectors are
extremely difficult to use unless you have the proper, expensive, tools.
