Default Sky+ box kills phone line

Been having trouble with my internet connection all day
traced back to the sky+ box
during the day, it will take the phone line
so if you pick up a handset, there is no dial tone and the internet
connection
has been dropped.
un-plug the box and all is well
I'm about 2 weeks past the 1st year with the box
so do I need the phone line in now or can I unplug
like I did in the ond days with my std sky box?
TIA

If you have multi-room then both boxes need connecting at all times, if
you only have one subscription box then after 12 months it doesn't need
connecting, wouldn't have thought you'd have needed the box connected
for the last 12 months unless you signed up again as a new customer and
not simply bought the box as an existing customer to replace the
standard box. Plus if you don't have multi-room it's extremely rare
they ever check that the box is connected, or if they do, don't bother
about it.

I have had exactly the same problems with my Sky+ Box. I am 11 months
into my contract so called Sky out who replaced the equipment. I have
heard its a common fault with the Thompson Sky+ box.

I presume if there is a nearby lightning strike the Sky+ box
(along with anybody nearby still using a PSTN modem) will
have a dead modem as the transient finds its way to ground.

would Sky fix free as its only just over the year? (Oct 05 install)
Or shall I ignore and when they insist on the phone cable being connected
then I tell em its broken, I suppose they can insist its fixed under their
contract?

Have you got a filter on the sky box???
I never used to have one on it till my ADSL started playing up, twas the
Sky+ box causing the broadband to drop out when it called home, sticking a
filter on it cured it.

As a side note and not wanting to teach you to suck eggs, ALL phone
equipment on an ADSL enabled line should be filtered, took me ages to sort
out a mates connection till i found out it was his bloody house alarm that
was hard wired to BT that was causing his connection problems!!!!!!!!

unfortunatly, all phones in the house are on a filter, but the sky box is
not
I will try putting it through a filter to see if this cures it, doubt it,
but got nothing to lose

You may be suprised, as i mentioned the only bit of telephony kit in my
house that was not filtered was the Sky+ box, after filtering it the dropout
problem stopped and has never returned, 18 months and counting

If it was a dial-out alarm then it shouldn't have made any difference
but if it was a carrier alarm then AFAIR it is not always compatible
with simultaneous use of broadband:-
