Hello, I've had Sky+ for about 4 years and on occasions my Sky+ has had th odd hip cup e.g. picture freeze whilst viewing live tv and so on. N problem. However in the past couple of weeks, I've recorded a number o programmes and I'll go to watch them. Suddenly the recording wil freeze, so I'll press the Sky button to return to live tv. The Sky bo returns to live broadcasts, however it is very slow doing it. At thi point, everything will stop if I attempt to change channel or go in t the Sky Guide. When I power down and attempt to restart the recorde programme, the Sky+ box will not let me watch the recording and I' left deleting the programme. Which is a pain, if it's a film and I' 3/4 through. Does anyone have any ideas, what might be causing this - as the proble seems to be on the increase. Many Thanks -- MrSky ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MrSky+'s Profile: http://ianag.com/tv/member.php?userid=547 View this thread: http://ianag.com/tv/showthread.php?t=155922 |

Basically over time the HDD gets fragmented/bad clusters etc the same as a PC and needs a format. Services, 4,0,1 Select. Options in there at the bottom to do a Planner Rebuild or reset the box. -- Conor "You're not married, you haven't got a girlfriend and you've never seen Star Trek? I don't think a planner rebuild is a format, or a defragmentation. I think it's the same as a CHKDSK (or a fsck if you're on Unix). You age is showing! |

Software reload. Full system reset (this will erase all recordings). New drive. -- Digibox problem? : A reboot solves 90% of these. Question what would happen if the drive was placed in a PC and reformatted ? would it totally screw it up and or could it be reused , if not in the Sky box in the computer ? Sorry; newbee, totally stupid question but I need to ask ? |

Sorry; newbee, totally stupid question but I need to ask ? No it would still work once back in the Sky box but you would need to do a Full System Reset on the box once it was reinstalled. Thanks!! would it do any good ? It is my orig Grey amstrad Box and recording sound is breaking up on playback sometimes picture is jumping too? Have done both the reset and the full restore, has made no difference :-( I'm feel Quite confident about pulling the drive out and putting it in the comp if it would do any good? So don't know if I should call sky , get a disk or give the old disk a zap in the computer. |

If there are any bad sectors, a possible cause of the symptoms, it will report them, and if few in number mask them out. I had a drive with 3 bad sectors and the PC kept blue sceening and crashing, the drive mfrs. (Seatools) utility fixed the problem, and no longer reports bad sectors. I suspect that the bad sectors were early in life failure, I keep two backups on USB drives, in case the drive goes south. After two years it hasn't given any more problems. I feel Quite confident about pulling the drive out and putting it in the comp if it would do any good? If it's not working properly it's worth a try. |

I've got the same problem here, so was thinking if the drive was bad just to
upgrade to a bigger hdd at the same time. Would like to hear if this fixed your problem though. Cheers, -- Coln (XRT) |
