Radiation and Aerials
BRIDGING SPACE
IN THE FIRST CHAPTER of this book the processes of radio com-
munication were very briefly traced from start to finish; since then
we have considered the sender in some detail. Before going on to
the receiver we should know something about how the space in
between is bridged.
We have just seen how electrical...

Antiference and the spellchecker by
Bill Wright[_2_]
Some time ago when I used a lot of Antiference products I got really
cheesed off with the oversized dipole assembly, the missing items, and
the support arm that didn't fit between the elements of a Gp B aerial,
so I spoke to the firm about these issues several times. Their response
was such that I now use Blake aerials. Just now I typed 'Antiference'
and the spellchecker suggested...

Do I really need a new aerial? by
AnthonyL
I'm pointing to the Nottingham transmitter, about 8 miles away and
looking at all the new aerials going up mine looks very sad, see
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/zOQ3FzTCNlWCiIVk_6L04cMxbFCeIbubrXUGnJNUOQ4?feat=directlink
I get analogue ok, and acquired a digibox a couple of years ago.
Originally I could get very little, but bit by bit I'm getting more
and more. Last year for instance...

Sandy heath glitch? by
Ian Field
Just as the 5pm news was starting on CH5 it went blue screen then "no
signal" caption, pressing the channel change button a few times - all
channels the same.
Set it to rescan and switched to (grainy) CH5 analogue till the rescan was
done - everythings back now.
What happened?

Lack of decent parts available to some installers may contribute to shoddy work! by
David Bolton
Popped into a trade aerial & satellite place this morning to grab a few bits
I needed on the fly. Stock checking at home has gone a bit awry and I had
run out of some essential items! Had an interesting question and answer
session with the owner.
ME Hi. Can I have some double lashing chimney brackets -
galvanised please?
SHOP Sorry but we don't stock them anymore.

What, technically, do you get with the Sky Shared DIsh offer by
David Woolley[_2_]
I'm trying to evaluate DSO options for the multiple blocks of low rise
flats where I live. Sky seem to operate a don't let the punter read
anything useful/negative, just get them on the phone to the salesman,
sort of of web site. The idea of free installation is certain to be
raised, although I don't think they will get their four subscriptions
per block, and what is on the web site suggest...

Your final paragraph suggests that the aerial system is ****e.
I know that, but I had hoped to be constructive about my complaint.

Which wideband Aerial reccomended by

The mast is 20 miles away, line of sight, good solid one required as
lots of crows and fat pigeons perch on existing aerial.

There is an additional issue that currently the Dover transmitter is about to
have its existing UHF aerial cylinder yanked off by a helicopter, and its new
post DSO array installed. Supposed to have happened (might have already ?) on
Monday, but all services will...

After DSO the main news bulletins on BBC-1 will be unnecessary by
Bill Wright[_2_]
As soon as DSO is complete everyone who can get BBC1 will be able to get
BBC News. If we lived in a logical world, therefore, there would be no
need to interrupt BBC-1's flow of trivia and light entertainment with a
news bulletin. All that would be needed would be a mention at the 6pm
programme junction of the BBC News channel. Then BBC-1 would be free to
show Tom and Jerry or something...

Digital rip-off? by
Bill Wright[_2_]
A friend has moved to a house in a town 75 miles from here. She rung to
ask me if I thought the price she had been quoted for a 'digital aerial'
was 'reasonable'. The price was £600 + VAT for an aerial, masthead amp,
and two feeds. It is, allegedly, a very bad reception area, yet
everything I can find out from here suggests that it isn't. Somewhat
staggered I have had to say I'll go up and...
