OT Flatscreen with adjustable resolution - ever? by BillL
Hello all, Just musing really but is there ever likely to be a flat screen technology (say in the next 30 years) that allows different resolutions with no loss in image quality? Its the one thing I miss now that I use a LCD PC monitor instead of a CRT one - the ability to change resolutions, without stretching or compressing the image. Or is this limitation inherent in all flat screen...

PVR connection question by John Hatpin
Please bear with me - I'm very new to the world of digital TV. So, I've got a Toshiba digital TV (a WLT66) and a Sony DVD player (NS76H). The TV has an aerial RF connection for Freeview, and the DVD player is connected via HDMI. All well and good, although I had to get a signal booster for the aerial lead, since it's shared. Now I'm thinking of buying a PVR, and I've got my eyes on this...

Television screen scratches by [email protected]
Hello there. I was wondering if you could help me with a little issue I'm having on my TV. I'll admit, this isn't exactly a "technical" issue, but I couldn't think of a better group to put this in. Recently, we bought ourselves a new LCD screen television, 40", and we were very pleased with it. However, my younger sister used a small rock and decided to type her name on the TV screen with it....

Cable prices by Bill Wright
The following message has not appeared here on Google Groups, so I'll repost it. "Bill Wright" wrote in message news:... Installers, what are you paying now for CT100 or equivalent? It seems to me that the recent hike in copper prices had led some importers to increase their margins. To keep it simple please quote prices based on purchases of 1000m or...

DRX400 bust - anyone know about the PSU ? by AJ
I appear to have broken my drx400 box due to a short on the LNB cable. Anyone know how accurate the PSU voltages should be under zero load? I've disconnected the PSU from the main board, and measuring voltages the 30v is low (~22v) and the 6.7v seems to be sitting around the 3.3v level, too. Is that typicaly? I don't know whether it's a fully regulated supply or not - how should it behave...

Ropey sound for CMA awards BBC2 Sat 11 Nov by Alec
Before I even start, don't anyone get at me for even wanting to watch the CMA awards on BBC2 (via FreeView from Crystal Palace) on Sat night. But the technical handling of what is, in the US, a major event was startlingly poor. The picture was only 4:3 which was disappointing, but no more than I've come to expect from many overseas events. But the sound! All the live audience sound seemed...

LCD's TV's create there own MPEG artefacts by John Russell
I have been tempted to buy a Toshiba LCD TV. Considering how good my SKY+ broadcasts are on a CRT I wasn't expecting any problems. Well I am shocked by how poor the picture is. After much deliberation I realised what the problem is. An LCD is a Digital Display, it has to work out what colour each LCD element has to be. So it has to work using digital video, and that means its digitises the...

Small extra box to add to Freeview HDD/DVD by Slitheen
I am about to get a Panasonic DMREX75 HDD/DVD Freeview recorder. Before I settled on a machine such as this, I desired a PVR with a twin tuner....but I simply love the features of this machine and the apparent ease of transferring recordings from HDD to disc media so much, that I will happily forgo a twin tuner - hence the idea of a twin tuner PVR and separate DVD recorder is now a no go for...

Failure of Sod's Law in Bradford by Bill Wright
Today I drove 45 miles to Bradford to investigate a fault affecting satellite reception at a large block of flats. I was really hoping that I could fix the fault using the things I had in the van. A second visit would be annoying at that distance. The cause of the fault was unusual. The power supply unit for the four satellite IF amplifiers had slight 50Hz ripple on the output. This was...
