Freesat/view guide updates by
Daniallo[_3_]
I know it's a common moan when programmes overrun & mess up recordings.
Well this afternoon the darts underran by about 10 minutes, so they stuck
on a short bit of Coast to fill. After watching this I flicked open the
guide & Coast had appeared in there, right before Jason & The Argonauts.
Is there a bloke somewhere updating the guide data? I was impressed by how
quickly this happened, it wasn't...

TOT turbine watch by
Bill Wright[_2_]
We have four identical brand-new turbines clearly visible from the
kitchen windows. This morning three are feathered so the blades are
edgewise on to the wind, but one is turning, at 12rpm. I wonder why the
one is different.

Digital Switchover in Guernsey by
Nick Le Lievre
My sister lives in Guernsey and I go over to see her about twice a year.
Last time I was there was in the summer and at that time they told me that
they could not pick up all the freeview channels that should have been
available to them ie the 15 or so I can get in Jersey not the countless
others available to mainland UK residents only. They are not massive tv
addicts so they have done...

Sky Signal Strength Zero nothing to worry about? by
Nick Le Lievre[_3_]
My SKY + HD box shows a signal strength of zero on certain potentially
troublesome channels such as CBS Reality and has done every since I got my
1TB Sky HD box about a year ago. CBS Reality one of the first to go if the
dish needs aligning and as far as I am aware I have no problems with the
picture quality and its not breaking up or reporting satellite signal not
being...

TOT kitchen science by
Bill Wright[_2_]
Out of the kitchen widow I can see the four turbines. All are turning
today, at 15rpm.
The sugar lumps were exposed to high humidity and then kept in a dry
place. They take ages to dissolve. Could they have dissolved on the
surface of each grain, then solidified again but with less total surface
area?

13A by

Dave Plowman (News) wrote:
Yes. The supplier I use doesn't even list unswitched 13 amp in their

I have one in the workshop that has failed. The socket was used for a
welder and I think the switch must have melted inside. I can't move the
rocker at all.

Any Humax HDR-FOX-T2 experts out there? by
Roger Mills[_2_]
Having had my Fox-T2 for a little while, I've just started exploring
what else it can do - besides simply recording and replaying TV programmes.
Today, I connected it to the internet for the first time in order to use
the BBCi player - using a very long ethernet cable draped all round the
house. This worked fine - but is a trip hazard, and installing it
properly would cause a lot of...

Digitising Vinyls (OT for uk.tech.digital-tv) by

Regulars will recall that I've been digitising all my ACs, MDs, and

some discoveries which I at least found interesting, I'll put them on
record, before they are forgotten ...
First a reminder of the general situation ...

Jim Lesurf's messages delayed by
Bill Wright[_2_]
Does anyone, including Jim of course, know why his messages appear here
late? They appear in the list (which is chronologically arranged) in the
correct place, but they always appear between 12 and 48 hours after the
time and date given. The annoyance is that when the group is busy they
are off the bottom of my screen, so when I think I've read everything it
says there's one or two messages...

BBC iPlayer - Is Adobe Flash used on TV? by
Michael Chare[_3_]
If I access the BBC iPlayer via my PC using www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer it
uses the Adobe Flash Player to show programmes.
If I use my Samsung TV of the Humax HDR the initial page is different.
Can anyone tell me what is the URL for this page?
Does the TV and STB have the Flash Player built in, or is it not used?

Belmont, Java Jive, Megalithia, and the Goolies by
Bill Wright[_2_]
Profiles for the path from Belmont to various locations around Howden,
just north of Goole, taken from Megalithia and Mr Jive's excellent
terrestrial TV calculator, show some degree of disagreement.
Mr Jive's path is not obstruced whereas Mr Megalithia's is. It seems
that Mr Jive has the transmission height at 434m ASL whereas Mr
Megalithia has it at 376m ASL, and that makes all the...

Where is the signal coming from? by
Archie
During the storms yesterday the inlaw's aerial mast broke and was left
hanging on the cables banging on the stair window so FIL was worried about
the window getting damaged so went up on the garage roof, cut the cables and
put the broken mast and two aerials away in the hut.
Later they reported that they were still receiving some channels, the main
BBC ITV channels plus some more. I couldn't...

Blu-ray video format by
Scott[_2_]
I received the 'Frozen Planet' Blu-ray boxed set at Christmas.
According to the box, the format is 1080i. However, the display data
from the Blu-ray player shows 1080/50p. Is one of these descriptions
wrong, or does a Blu-ray player convert from one to the other? The TV
also shows 1080p, which I assume is the input received from the
Blu-ray player.
Just wondering. Thanks.

LG RHT498H Hard Disk / DVD Recorder queries by
Ian Jackson[_2_]
My LiteOn LVW-5405 HDD/DVD video recorder has decided to throw a wobbly,
and it looks like I'll have to replace it.
Anyway.....
It's obvious that I need a new machine.
I want something I can make the occasional archive copy to a DVD, and
the LG RHT498H (which has a single freeview tuner, a 250GB hard disk and
DVD drive) seems a good economical bet (£170 from Dixons).
