Freeview & Aerial by George Chandler
hello to you all I am thinking of getting my son a freeview box for Christmas but we do not have a aerial on are roof (at the moment he is using his aerial what came with his tele but that isn't crystal clear signal it is a bit fuzzy I you would suspect) and I was wondering can I get him a decent one for his bedroom I believe there is ones were you can plug them in for extra signal and all...

Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain - (was: TOT but did anyone else see ...) by Java Jive
"Java Jive" wrote in message news:... ... this - I was in hysterics, a lovely oddball comedy, a totally *different* film ... As variously requested in the original thread, here's advance warning. It's in the current Film 4 season. I forgot to alert the first time around, but fortunately here it is again - hope others get as much pleasure from it as I did ...

The end of the mass produced CRT by John
Looking to the future I think that the next generation will look back at in amazement that the colour CRT could be mass produced so cheaply and to such a high standard. I must confess that even though I understand the theory of the shadow mask, the 3 guns and the phosphor dots I just cannot get my mind around how the mass production has been developed and how it can have developed to such a...

Sanyo telly is a pile of ****e by Bill Wright
The instructions have diagrams showing the effect of each aspect ratio setting on each type of broadcast. No setting gives correct proportions on 4:3 and on 16:9 even according to the book. But auto switching should take place it says. Not on this particular box though. I had to tell the customer to switch manually. Next problem, he rings up to say that the picture has 'peculiar colours'....

HDMI standard UK vs US by [email protected]
Is there any difference between the HDMI interface in US and UK sets? I have a US spec TV, and would like to get high definition from Sky, but am not sure whether Sky's HDMI output will be compatible.

Apparently that's how the great unwashed will understand multiplexes:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6161789.stm I don't mind simplification, but "multiplex" doesn't appear anywhere in the report!! Matt

No Mux1 (BBC 1 etc) from Crystal Palace. Help! by [email protected]
Hi all I've had my freeview for a few weeks here in West Norrowd/West Dulwich (London), only a couple of miles from the Crystal Palace transmitter that supplies me with digital TV. My problem is that, no matter what I try, I just can't get BBC1, 2 or 3 and looking at the options onscreen confirms that Channel 25 aka Mux1 (Multiplex 1) from Crystal Palace is giving me no signal. What confuses...

Part-time dabblers diary - a dull tale! by Doctor D
With apologies to Bill Wright for plagiarising and ruining an original idea! .............Friends had an old group A 18 contract aerial on their chimney directed at Ridge Hill, which fell over on Monday night when the mast snapped just above the top bracket. They had an Argos special Blake DMX10W look-alike aerial stored in the loft from a previous house, so the intention was to temporarily...

PVR quality? by bugbear
I have noticed with extreme interest that the picture quality from the integrated DTV box in my Tosh WLT66 is far superior to that I get from my external (daewoo) box. Whilst the daewoo is admitedly older, I suspect much of the improvement comes from the integrate DTV feeding a digital signal directly to the image processing computer, whereas the external box does freeview-digital-video, then...

Unlocking the DVD3 Command Codes for Sony RDR-GX120 by MSNo1Fan
Hi I wonder if anyone out there can help me I've just been setting up my new dvd recorder and got carried away with all the settings. I've selected the command code DVD3 and now the remote that came with the recorder won't work with it, which I didn't realise until after the fact I'm pulling my hair out as I can't now use this remote at all! So

Rigger recommendation, please by Chas Gill
Can anyone recommend a good bloke to rig a DVB aerial in Bishop's Stortford, Herts. before Christmas? The chap I have used (and trusted) in the past always seems to be "up a ladder" and leaves answering machines on the end of all his phones to tell me that. Seems he never comes down, 'cos he sure ain't returning my calls............. Cheers Chas

Recording from Digital out by Morse
Hi, sensing this is a stupid question but: Maplin are selling a 160Gb twin tuner Freeview PVR at the mo. They say it's a Digihome, but it's marked Vestel in the pictures. From the shots of the back, there's a digital out RS232, two SCARTs and a CVBS socket(?). How could I dump recorded programs from the PVR onto DVD? Is there such a thing as a digital out to USB converter? Cheers.

Noel Edmond's Deal or No Deal.....what's this country coming to? by anon
Noel Edmonds has two nominations for 'Deal or No Deal' in the upcoming National TV Awards: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6056548.stm Fair play to him personally; but WHY do people like this programme? If there were a large population of TV-watching chimpanzees out there then then I might understand it. Has the average IQ in this country dropped to the low 40's in the last couple of...

Which way to point it? by Barry
Hi all Having spent this afternoon watching all the local aerials swaying about in the gales I started to think about what I would do when my old aerial finally falls off the chimney. It has been up there for about 10 years and at the moment points to Emley Moor. I have no problems with digital reception, in fact therein lies my problem (?)

Will HD Ready IDTVs be able to show HD Freeview? by Colin Jones
If you buy a new IDTV which is 'HD Ready' will the inbuilt Freeview decoder be able to show HD quality broadcasts when they eventually start? I know for example that some trials have been going on for HD Freeview ( http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/11/22/uk_hdtv_trial_successful/ ), and I'm assuming that they must have been provided with special hardware to display HD pictures. Is there...

To DVD ot not To DVD? (DVD ot PVR) by Bazzer Smith
Pondering whether to get a DVD recorder or a harddrive type recorder, or a combined unit. I like the idea of a hard drive, saves getting off your arse to change the DVD medium. Also if I just get a harddrive recorder (PVR) can I transfer stuff to my computer to burn a DVD from my computers DVD recorder drive? I mean do they have a USB port or something like that?

How to point an aerial? by Paul D.Smith
All, During my walk to work I got to thinking "how do Bill et. al. point a TV aerial in the right direction"? Now for some installs I can come up with an answer for this question: 1. He can see the transmitter! 2. It's a new install so he fits a short lead, hooks up the analyser "on the roof", find the right direction and then spots a reference point. Take down the aerial, fit the full...
