Multiple SCARTs by Albert
I am looking for some clarification about using SCARTs please. If one has, say, a PVR and a VCR both connected to a TV using a SCART selector box, how does the system decide which output is displayed on the TV? I have fought shy of too many SCART connections (just got one from the PVR to VCR and another from PVR to TV) to avoid the system (and us) getting confused, but I am interested to...

BBC determined to **** on its paying viewers by Agamemnon
After ****ing on paying BBC3 viewers by inflicting DOGs on every single programme including films whereas Film4 does not think them necessary. After ****ing on paying BBC2 viewers by inflicting scrolling what's next bars on them at the top of the screen only seconds before a programme ends and the announcer tells you what's on next anyway. The BBC has now decided to **** on paying BBC4...

Life on Mars: Reply from BBC... by kim
"Dear Andrew Miller Thank you for your email. We're sorry that you were disappointed by our change from premiering Life on Mars to repeating it. Although we had planned to premiere the whole series on BBC Four it seemed that many people had missed the first couple of episodes and would appreciate a chance to catch the start rather than look ahead. We understand that this change is frustrating...

Which report on HD TV sales by John Russell
Hidden on yesterdays mid day BBC news was an item by "Which" magazine on HD TV. Not surprisingly their survey found that many people believed buying a HD (ready) set was enough, and that because they where on sale HD was available without any extra outlay other than the HD set. Which also said many people where disappointed with the SD pictures their set produced, something not demonstrated...

Connecting Composite Out - VGA 15pin Monitor by [email protected]
I have a PlayStation2 (scph39003) UK, PAL and I want to connect this to my VGA (15 pin) computer monitor and be able to play any game through it. However, I prefer not to spend too much money, but quality is really not an issue at all. Is this possible? And is this: (http:// www.beststuff.co.uk/specialist_rgb_leads.htm) my best bet? As I said, I do not have that much money to spend, and 20 is...

Sky question? Can anyone advise? by Paul Woodsford
I have a Grundig Digibox that has behaved faultlessly for some years. But the last 48hrs I have been unable to receive BBC 1,2,3,4 and all BBC regional channels as well as ITV 1,2,3,4. The error message is No 28 " No Satellite Signal". Ch4,5 and S4C are received perfectly as well as every other channel, movie channels, Box Office etc:. According to SKY Tech support this is probably due to the...

Primer on MATV wanted? by Anti-Spam
I need to learn how MATV systems work, and how to spec up a system. I do single and multi-user satellite TV systems at the moment, but I have the opportunity to quote for a large communal TV system on a caravan site. They require a bank of 10 or so digital satellite receivers, with their outputs signals being combined and sent down one cable. From this one cable they require some 300 TV ariel...

Calendar is useless by Bill Wright
There was a big fire in Sheffield today. They're been trying to put it out all day and all night. It was a tyre depot, so black smoke is hanging over the city. Several roads have been closed and the tramline has been inundated with oily water. The item was headline news on the local radio stations, and was a big item on Look North. There was no mention whatsoever of this event on Calendar....

reichenbach falls - beware story spoilers in replies. by Trevor Wright
My pvr cut the last seconds of Reichenbach Falls. Can anyone tell me: was the Buchan character resurrected right at the end? Was he in the rabbit suit? Replies to the newsgroup (very grateful) probably should carry a spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Or email my Reply-To address. Many thanks. -- Trevor Wright

Email 'warning' of programmes by Victor Delta
At the risk of being told that this is the wrong place to post this thread, can I please ask if anyone knows if there is a service available somewhere on the web where you can list titles of programmes/films you are interested in and it will send you an email when one of your listings is being transmitted in the next few days? I get fed up searching through the various programme guides for a...

Analogue plus Sky plus freeview on one TV? by Dave Fawthrop
We have analogue and Sky on the lounge TV My daughter now watches Sky on her bedroom TV via the Sky box RFOUT2. Which means that she moans at me when I want to watch say BBC4 on Sky on the lounge TV. I have enough RF signal at the lounge TV to run a freeview box. How would I connect a Freeview into the three scart sockets at the back of my big lounge TV without affecting the Sky box, the VCR,...

Telewest vs Virgin Central 3 for 30 by Mat Overton
Those of you on Telewest's 3 for 30 offer may not have noticed that Virgin Media's 3 for 30 offer gives you the same phone and broadband, but now with the LARGE TV package instead of Telewest's STARTER TV package. If you phone them up they'll move you across straight away and 83 extra channels (apparently). I rang up and started kicking up a fuss about the unfair offer, but the woman of...

ITV 2 & 3 gone from Freeview by diy-newby
My parents have freeview. Since the war between Virgin and Sky ITV 2 & 3 show as "no service" on Freeview. Is this related to the virgin/sky fight or just coincidence?

Freeview Missing Channels by [email protected]
I live in a 3 story building which has an aerial (with a mast). A cable runs from it into the loft, from where it is split into a few (4+) connections to other flats. I have freeview in my flat, and can currently view most channels, except channel 5, abc and 1 or 2 other channels. This works without an amplifier. When I attach the amplifier the signal is slightly worse, which I think is strange...

Aerial and reception advice please (longish post I'm afraid!) by ChrisW
I live in a converted stone farmhouse steading building. I have been here since the conversion was carried out in 1991. The contract electricians installed TV cabling in the time honoured way of wiring things up in the most convenient way to them without any thoughts as to where the best signal might be acquired. No qualified aerial installer was involved. I have lived with the consequences...

Integrated TV distribution systems by GTS
Long time lurker on this ng would like some advice on large-scale installations of integrated TV distribution systems. I work for a landlord with many blocks of flats, and the only service available to our tenants at present is NTL analogue TV - the poor sods! This was a contract with NTL we did some ten years ago. Since then digital TV has sprung up and many tenants would like Sky, so we...

Testing Freeview by AnthonyL
My neighbour has a Freeview box - Philips DTR 1500 but has had no joy with it so he gave it to me to try. We live in a village that has some difficulties with reception and so I was keen to see if I got any results before spending money myself. Well I seem to have got quite a lot of channels despite having a low budget aerial pointing to the Nottingham transmitter. However no sign of Channel 5...
