Lipsync unstuck on some channels by PeterW[_4_]
Hi I've noticed that audio/vidio sync occasionally comes badly unstuck on some Freeview channels (Five US in particular) but not on most other channels. I've noticed this on some of the Goodmans (GDB4?) clones such as Digilogic DSTB1500 and Seg AESEGS7B (as sold in Tesco). Anyone else noticed this or have a solution? Thanks

BBC I Player admitted to be inaccessible by Brian Gaff
On Tuesday, R4 In touch did a follow-up on a complaint from a blind listener that now the new all singing and dancing I Player was on line, no longer could he spool through a program to find the item to listen again to, as on the old listen again system. It transpired, that despite the week before the project guy saying it was accessible, it turned out that the slider which replaced the...

BBC World Service Via DTT (Crystal Palace) by JOHN PORCELLA
Hi All, I did a retune on my TUTV box to see if the new Channel 4 Music channel would appear. I found that it did not, but the BBC World Service appears twice now from the Crystal Palace transmitter! The one at the end of the list of BBC radio stations has no contents listing, whereas the one right at the very end of the EPG has

Cheltenham - Digital Advice by Ryan
Hi All, I'm going to spend the bank holiday weekend with my great aunt and being the one that the family turn to for all things technical I thought I would seek a little advice before going. I see that the transmitters that serve Cheltenham don't switch over until 2011 but like most areas a digital signal is available now. The last time I was down she had commented that several of her...

Echostar T-101 FTA by Doctor D
We have a 3 year old Echostar T-101 FTA which works perfectly. However, I've just dug another Echostar T-101 FTA out of a drawer and carried out a re-tune as it was last used elsewhere and it has found all the channels, but allocated nothing to positions 1-4. Five is on position 5 and BBC4 is at 9. BBC1 is up on 8XX, likewise BBC2, BBC3, ITV1 and CH4. They are not in any kind of logical...

Channel four on sky 104 by Ivan
my recent post about loss of local channels, after yet another mysterious disappearance and a couple reboots later they have now reappeared, along with Channel four on 104 without a Freesat card in my Panasonic Sky box, all we need now is for Channel five to complete the line up.

Is there some info... by Brian Gaff
That can be read by joe public which explains what the problems are going to be. I'd ideally like to be able to hand out a leaflet that.. Explains the differences between freeview, Free sat and Sky Freesat. Explains why some existing boxes might stop working as time goes by. Explain about hd and the differences , ie why the boxes for that are more expensive and why they cannot get hd in...

Power consumption on Standby by Allan[_2_]
My old analogue TV used to consume 1 watt on standby, when standby had been selected from the remote control. At such a low level, it wasn't worth turning it off. My new Sony ID TV (20S3000) states in its spec that it consumes 0.7 watts on standby, but I've measured that it consumes 20 watts when standby has been selected from the remote control; it only reduces to below 1 watt if you...

Not just aerials again by Brian Gaff
Yes still ringing with their automated crrap and they leave the number visible and its some agency or other. I told them I'm on the list, but I did not get the impression they care even though they apologised. The analogue cable system in Milton Keynes. by Marky P
Hi, Been listening to the consumer programme on BBC 3CR and someone phoned in about the MK cable system and wondering when it was expected to go digital. The radio station contacted Virgin Media and they stated that there are no plans to change the MK cable system to digital. They will carry on broadcasting the analogue signal through the cable system long after analogue switch-off. To me,...

Digital TV for Residential Care Homes by Nicola Redwood[_2_]
This may not be the right place to post this, but it's a start Am looking into the above as we have a number of residential care homes with 40+ residents in London and the South East and with digital switchover in the not too distant future, we are looking for a viable solution I know there are solutions for hotel chains and the like, but is anyone able to point me in the right direction in...

migration of solder by Bill Wright
I recently used short lengths of cored solder to make wedges to put in the hinged joints of my glasses. Under the constant pressure exerted by my bonce the parts of the solder thus squeezed became thinner and thinner, until they almost disappeared. To me this is proof that when you get a mains lead with soldered ends you should cut them off, rather than trap them under the screw. The latter...

Freeview box down by David
This morning my Daewoo SetPal Freeview box is say no signal and check aerial. Have put an old Pioneer On-digi box in place and it works! So the Daewoo seems a goner. Was surprised this old Pioneer worked as I thought transmission standards had changed to upset them, is it just some makes? Now I see Freeview box seem to be priced from £13 'ish at Tesco and normal shops up to say £60 or 70. Is...

HD quite poor or SD upconversion too good? by Mrs A Trellis[_2_]
I've finally bitten the bullet and gone for an LCD. As I have a V+ box I thought it was about time, especially as the good old 28" panny CRT was getting a bit long in the tooth. But I'm a bit miffed over the perceived quality of HD. I've plumped for the Sony KDL32-W4000U, after all it does get 5* from What Hi fi and everyone else seems to rate it too. Having seen how poor a scart picture...
