Oh, that's what Guide plus is by

How disappointing. Apparently I'm expected to leave my new Panasonic TV on
standby all night so thhat it can download the Guideplus EPG - in their

Reliable make of tv? by
Hugh Newbury
I have a friend who is going to buy a tv soon -- prolly at
Comet/PCWorld/etc. Which *maker* has the most reliable tv's, so she
doesn't have to rely the 'advice' of the sales people?

Recording on ice by
Stephen Wolstenholme
My wife always wants to watch both parts of Dancing on Ice. I hate all
the chit-chat and much too frequent advert breaks. The solution is to
record the programs and then play them back skipping everything but
the actual skating. That reduces the program to about 15 minutes.
However the first part of program is recorded but the second part is
missed.
I know I am setting everything up correctly...

Now we have or about to have Freeview HD by
David
So Joe Public will or about to find out his HD Ready TV will not get the HD
channels on his TV with the tick on.
I have today been quoted £150/180 for a Freeview HD box.
Do you experts think a TV with Freeview built in could have parts added or
changed to make it get HD Freeview channels?
Regards
David

Stealing Bill's pictures by
Doctor D
Lots to see (and criticize) on this page http://www.abaerials.co.uk (click
on gallery) starting with the mains cable running diagonally in the plaster
from TV to socket outlet. They've also nicked one of Bill's pictures. It's
about the only picture that doesn't feature a Triax Unix 52. One size
obviously does fit all!
See if you can spot it:...

Budget TV signal strength meter by
David WE Roberts
Prompted by the thread about photos of roofs being used to advertise a
meter.....
Can anyone recommend a budget signal strength meter for aligning a TV
aerial?
I am slowly working my way towards replacing my current aerial and would
like to be able to align the new one whilst up a ladder without using the
walkie talkie and beautiful assistant method.
Budget is under £20.

Samsung 2333HD by
Lew
I've bought this TV several weeks ago from Laskys and ever since when
switched off the power light comes on randomly, sometimes for a few
hours, sometimes for a few days. I've had the techs guys (from Comet)
out twice and it's clear that they don't know what is wrong - they've
both done a factory reset and switched off the auto-update feature
(which I've already done). I've also phoned...

Adverts on Sky by
Steve Thackery[_2_]
I skip adverts with my recorder. I don't know what the top speed is
but it's skips the adverts in a few seconds. That's way too fast for
me to stop exactly at the end of the adverts. I usually play the
adverts at 4 times normal speed.
It's worth pointing out that some recorders - such as my Humax 9200 - offer
a "skip forward" feature. Mine is set to 60 seconds, and four quick taps on...

BBC HD last night by

Surely the job description for the caption designer included "must be able
to spell"?
Or maybe it doesn't matter?
Or no-one cares?

Samsung Freeview DVD Recorder DVD-SH893M by

Hi
I'm looking into getting a Freeview Recorder
There seems to be dozens of 'reconditioned' Samsung DVD-SH893M units on ebay
going cheap - so many in fact that I'm suspicious - is there something wrong
with them?
Anyone have 1 - have a view?

TV distribution around the house - again by
Dave[_6_]
Couple of months ago we moved into this house and, against all the odds, we
actually like all the decor as it is and will not be looking to redecorate
anywhere for a good long while yet, so running new coax around the place is
a no-no for now.
Previous owners used (and left in place, so we now use) a 'behind-the-set'
aerial distribution amplifier that basically looks like a 13A plug with an...

Have you tried TV Guide UK TV Listings at

which is free and allows you to customize your own station listings,

Elf and safety by
David WE Roberts
The older aerials (and aerial remenants) in our street are all on the quite
tall chimney stacks.
Quite a few recent aerials have been installed on a gable end above a
bedroom window - works because the street is aligned with the transmitter.
Is this just an easier way of doing things, or does the safety elf not allow
you to go above two storeys on a ladder anymore, and thus prevent you doing...

newbie question re PVRs and DVD copy by

Hi,
I'm think of buying a hard drive Freeview box. On occasions I want a
DVD copy of a program - but I don't wish to buy a DVD recorder unless
there is no alternative. Which leads me to:
Are there any hard drive recorders with a digital output, eg USB that
I can take to the PC and then burn a DVD ???
On a related note, I read that some hard drive/ DVD recorder combo
