Give that executables are identified by permissions not file names or
extensions then this would work perfectly well.

So sooner after such a major outbreak, I don't think it's fair to
describe asking such a question as 'FUD'. Neither you or I know
anything about his/her hosting arrangements - whether it's done from
a server on own premises, or using a 'standard' package from a
'professional' web-hosting outfit; if the former, then the server
config is possibly something of a one-off, and is thus more likely to
contain errors, but errors are not unknown with the latter arrangement
either, for it is clear from my own dealings with web-hosts that their
standards vary enormously.
