Default Choice of New TV

Hi all,
I am going to give my present Samsung TV to my son and buy a new one
for myself.

What does anyone think of the "Toshiba" 40inch LCD HD TV
40BV70140
It is the only set in the price range of £350.00 that has 4 HDMI sockets
which I can use.
I am not bothered about it not being a "Smart" TV as my Humax Freeview
recorder can do all that.

Thanks for any thoughts.
Mick.

Is your make/model correct?

We have a 26" Toshiba , and there are some issues with its operation
that you may wish to investigate. They may or may not be relevant to
your model.
-The epg can take ages to load up, and sometimes a channel just reports
'No information'. The Samsung upstairs always has full info.
-Changing a channel on the epg changes the TV to that channel, you
can't scan through the list and still have your original program on in
the background.
-The built-in loudspeakers are terrible, more so than the smaller
Samsung. This is not unusual, it seems.
-It can only do one thing at a time, eg if you have just changed
channel, and want to alter the volume, you have to wait until the
channel info. bar has cleared before it will respond to the volume
button. Terrible when the new channel is overpoweringly loud. This
behaviour applies to all functions.

But it also does some things better than the Samsung, so it just proves
that there is no perfect set.

There could be a third make which is perfect.

I doubt it! But if there is, how do I identify it? How many makes are
there out there, including the supermarket re-branded ones?

Perhaps it's like the search for a perfect woman. You make a choice from
the ones that (a) come to your attention and (b) you can afford. Then
you either try to focus on the good points and ignore the bad, or if the
model you chose is just hopeless you get rid.

Bear in mind that it's not got a Freeview HD tuner, just Freeview, which
might make it a bit of a short-sighted choice.
