I have two Panasonic HDD/DVD recorders and consequently 2 remote
controls. The recorders have slightly different model numbers but I don't think that matters much. One of the remote controls has stopped giving useful signals to either box, but the other works perfectly well with both boxes, which behave exactly as normal. The remote that doesn't work properly is acknowledged by both boxes as sending a signal by flashing a green light in response, so is clearly working after a fashion. It's just that its signals don't cause the boxes to do what I intended, nor usually anything very much or at all reliably. I've changed the batteries just to check, and that makes no difference. Is there anything that can be done to a faulty remote control other than stamping on it, or isn't it worth the effort? Should I just give up and get a replacement? |

I've got a Panasonic Freesat box with BD/HDD record and playback and a Panasonic BD player. Both remotes will (or did work) both until I read the instructions. There is a code to enter I'm not sure whether it's for the remote or devices to be controlled, but now both remotes give the signal to both boxes which they both acknowledge but one does the deed whilst the other just sits there and doesn't respond. I suggest you find your original manuals. -- Clive |

Each can be set to control 2 different receivers. Both the remote and the receiver must be set to use the same code, which is in the manual for the receiver. Bob |

If the remote control is set wrongly for the device, you should see a message like "DVD 1" on the display. The way to set the remote control may be to press "enter" and a digit (1,2, or 3) simultaneously for a few seconds. -- Richard |

Manufacturers replacement remotes are usually a farcical price. Several years ago my JVC SVHS remote failed. A replacement was listed at £45! Fortunately videotape was on the way out so I didn't bother. As the OP has a working remote, consideration should be given to getting a universal remote (such as Logitech Harmony) as a backup. -- Jeff |

The way to set the remote control may be to press "enter" and a digit (1,2, or 3) simultaneously for a few seconds. Thanks for that - a result! Pressing 'OK' and '1' simultaneously for 5 secs did the trick. I found it later in the manual as step 7 in a sequence where I couldn't do the first 6 because the remote wouldn't talk to the box. Really helpful that, I thought. Anyone want to buy a spare Panasonic remote I ordered yesterday? |
