Since the great innovation of being able to actually use the epg on my
talking goodmans box, I have recently encountered some funny goings on. The question is, is this a normal feature or a problem... Basically, if you choose to view the epg, you can move through the stations with the arrow keys and through the times with the other directions. However sometimes, if a proggy has no information available, as Really dide last night, the next channel seems to jump to an epg for several days forward, rather than return to the correct day and time. I've yet to be able to recover from this without turning the box off and on again and avoiding said channel with no info. It seems not to matter if I use list or table view, the same thing happens. Well the software seems to be up to version 6, one would have thought they
might have cracked it by now! Other funnies are that it can lose the info and say there is no info, when there was a few minutes back, going down a proggy then up again seems to fix it. I suspect the reading software is not waitint for a buffer to fill sometimes before launching into, the no info routine. Other issues, are the same as on other boxes with AD on in that often AD can vanish in the middle and need to have the station reselected, or cut off the end of the AD sometimes, though I fear this is the broadcasters fault quite often. Poor monitoring I'd suggest. There is definitely a hardware iissue in the Goodmans as well. It seems not to pass through the sound of a dvd properly when its used that way. It removes a lot of bass and sounds a bit compressed. Its as if there is some kind of mismatch. The problem is these days that products have such short lives that they shove them out and before they are fixed they get replaced! Being in the situation I am, I only have the choice of the one box if I want the epg, and talking menus. I'd say this feature would be relatively simple to add to most boxes but the cost cutting makes them not bother.
