Out of interest, what make/model do you use?

They're both TomToms. The first one many years old when they were quite
bulky. The latest one a larger screen and slim. It also picks up traffic
information and acts on that. It's an HD Traffic

A little bit more digging around the TV/monitor idea indicates that at
the low end TV/monitors, the resolution is terrible (worse than the
phone!) or I could go for high end, starting around £150 or so.

But you'll still have the problem of a composite video feed.
