Default AD oddities

I posted about this a while back, but having now tested quite a few
receivers and boxes feel its time to re ask the question.
What is the actual problem with AD in freeview. Many programmes that have it
do work well without issues, but quite often one gets glitching of the AD,
cut off ends or vanishing altogether until its cycled off and on again. I
noticed all of the above last night on Sherlock, a rubbish film but all the
problems surfaced at one time or another.
If it were just one box I'd suspect tolernnces or whatever, but it seems
its not. So the fact that it often can be brought back by cyling the
station or the AD selection, it seems to me it could be a chipset or
software issue, after all if it were on the actual output nothing you did
would fix it for the moment would it?
I know in the mists of time when they were testing, the vanishing AD was a
problem, but it seems its not been fully put to bed yet.
Do all sets use the same chips?

Brian
