I know from past posts that readers of this news group like to see photographs of signs in public places which reassures them that local taxes are being spent appropriately in order to prevent law suits for failing to warn of potential dangers, so here is another one ... https://lh6.googleusercontent.COM/-lIAfWLnCpTo/TxTusmNDzxI/AAAAAAAAA4I/u6R9s2-qqzI/s0-d/photo.jpg |

.... but nothing about low-flying kangaroos! True, but I liked the yellow diamond hazard warning sign for "falling pine cones". One would hope that in northern part of Queensland where the rain forest still stands, they have hazard signs for these ... http://www.odditycentral.COM/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/bird2.jpg |

writes Hmm, OK let me in on the secret... I don't know if its still there but in Richmond near the river there used to be a sign saying this area subject to flooding. It was amazing how many times you found a car partially under water on the space though. Do people really read signs I wonder? The problem is that so many signs 'cry wolf' most (if not all) of the time. If we always religiously obeyed them all without question, we would find ourselves taking evasive action where absolutely none was required. Except for the occasional extremely rare situation where the warning was current and justified, who can blame people for generally ignoring them? -- Ian |

Indeed until recently they only had two statics which were usually put up on bridges on the A1, A19, and A64 near the county borders, but they now have a number of handhelds as well. Interesting to note that North Yorks has one of the lowest accident rates in the country...... -- Woody harrogate three at ntlworld dot com |

Not far from here a road that didn't have a convenient means of avoiding it had Road Closed signs for weeks as the council did bits of patching here and there, and replaced some kerbs. The road wasn't closed at all. Eventually everyone just learnt to ignore the signs. So what will they think next time they see a Road CLosed sign? Bill |
