Is that the same lack of control that means someone will have three
glasses of something they describe as tasting of parafin?

Ah yes. The joke. A form that requires perception.

Most do, but Beck's Blue is not to bad in a lagery sort of way.

Yes we drink that. It's tolerable.

You do realise that was a joke, don't you?

You do realise it wasn't a joke, don't you?

It was in fact a joke. I had six glasses of it really. By the third it
didn't taste of paraffin so much so I carried on.

Had a similar experience in France: bought 1.5 li of cheap red wine,
thinking at the time that it was an unusual quantity. Found out why when,
after the first litre, the last third of the wine wasn't too bad!

Well, it's platelets, and I've got lots of the stuff, so they tell me!

Is the donation centre near where you live/work?

The lack of a nearby centre would seem to be a major obstacle to platelet
donation for most people.

Marks and Spencers on line are selling bottle conditioned real ales at
very reasonable prices. If you get two cases it's carriage free. I got
some and the packing etc is excellent. As is/was the beer.

Think I'll just stick to eating crisps with my beer.

It's one of the Manchester centres, I live about 15 miles away. But
yes, there aren't very many places that do platelets.
