My sister lives in Guernsey and I go over to see her about twice a year.
Last time I was there was in the summer and at that time they told me that
they could not pick up all the freeview channels that should have been
available to them ie the 15 or so I can get in Jersey not the countless
others available to mainland UK residents only. They are not massive tv
addicts so they have done nothing to rectify this.

When I went there at Christmas they were in the same position, what
intrigued me is that there tv had appeared to try and tune into ITV2 and a
number of other channels that are not available on freeview in the channel
islands yet there TV had somehow tuned into them yet there was no signal.

How could it have found any trace of these channels and left behind the
evidence?

I don't think you'll find ITV 2 on any French DTT muxes ?

More likely is the receiver woke itself up at some point and performed a
scan (some receivers do this overnight), and latched onto a UK mainland
DTT transmitter during a lift period. Stockland Hill would be the most
likely contender.

As far as I'm aware, ITV2 is available from Fremont Point (Jersey). I'm
sure it was last time I was there.

It is quite hard to get stuff from Jersey directly in guernsey. Its quite a
difficult path over a lot of water and tends to fade a lot. many people
over there now use Freesat when they can. There are relays, but not very
good.

A look at the ukfree.tv site shows that Guernsey's Les Touillets
transmitter only provides the public but not the commercial muxes, so
they'd only get about half the Freeview channels, but ITV2 *is* included:

So if ITV2 is not received, then they've got a fault that's preventing
them from getting some of the locally transmitted channels as well.

Not necessarily. There was a contractual problem when the CI DSO took
place in Nov 2010. Initially I'm sure none of the ITV sibling channels,
or ITV HD were available, because of course back then Channel TV was not
part of ITV Ltd, only 'affiliated' to it.

I can't remember whether things are resolved yet ? They ought to be,
because last year ITV Ltd announced they had acquired CTV ? Although I'm
not sure even if so, ITV 1 HD is available on DTT yet, or on the Sky or
Freesat EPGs ?

I am in Jersey and did a rescan last night with my Goodmans freeview box and
it still did not pickup ITV2 besides in Guernsey the TV also had left a
trace of Dave amongst other that I know only to be available in mainland UK.
I guess it must have been a lift period as has been suggested.

Hence my comment about the locals going freesat and lsaying they are in fact
in the UK so they see the channels.
