Default Analogue Switchoff: When does the Freeview signal;get boosted?

Here in the Surrey Hills we are trying to get ready for the analogue
switchoff next month.

For the kitchen TV I've been trying a Freeview digital box
(Labgear FV300), but - as with my old Goodman box - it had a hard time
pulling many channels in, and any it did were not good enough to use.

The $64 question is: On what date is our Freeview signal likely to be
boosted?
(We are between Hindhead and Farnham. (GU10 country)

A quick Google will tell you when your serving transmitter gets
DSO'd - fairly soon I think. It will go to full power on PSB1
(the BBC mux) at DSO1 and the remaining muxes should go to full
power at DSO2 when analogue is fully switched off. Don't forget
you will need a full retune (NOT add new channels - the full
monty) certainly at DSO2 and maybe at DSO1 as well.

Have a look at www.ukfree.tv for more details.

Oh, and its the $64000 question. $64 would not be worth getting
out of bed for!

Depends which transmitter:-

Crystal Palace or Guildford:-

April 4th for Stage 1, April 18th for Stage 2

Midhurst:-

February 29th for Stage 1, March 14th for Stage 2

Hannington:-

February 8th for Stage 1, February 22nd for Stage 2, (COM muxes increase to
full whack eastwards on April 18th)

All Transmitters:-

Stage 1: BBC 2 analogue dies, BBC Mux changes frequency and increases in
power (Retune required)

Stage 2 Remaining analogues die, remaining Muxes move and increase in Power,
(HD Mux becomes available to all)

Mark, get the OP's address. He offered to pay $64, remember?

Good point, 64 USD is about 40 quid, two 20 Quid notes then, everyone living
in Surrey normally has a whole wad of them stuck on a rusty nail in their
downstairs karzie.

Don't overlook the game of Musical Channels for Crystal Palace!

BBC2 analogue dies, ITV disappears ... and is reincarnated on the
vacated BBC2 channel, BBC Mux changes frequency and increases in power
(Retune required)

I'm quite sure a lot of people will be caught out by this!

Very true, actually the same BBC 2/ITV swap will apply at Guildford, and
most of CP's relays too.

I think the OP's buffer must be full by now !

Many thanks for all responses - much appreciated...

Although I know the DSO dates, what I didn't know was when the
Freeview signals would be boosted.
(If I understand the responses correctly, it will be done in two
stages coinciding with the 2 DSO dates.)

As for main room viewing, we are thinking of ditching Sky (as they
insist on upgrading to Sky+ HD, i.e. not offering just Sky+, and we do
not want the expense of HD). and replacing with a twin-tuner
Freeview or Freesat HDR.
The problem is, we don't yet know if the Freeview signal here will
be strong enough, so will probably fork out for an extra feed from the
dish for a Freesat HDR.

Am puzzled that Amazon are offering the Humax Foxsat HDR *500GB* HD
twin tuner at £223.60, which is less than their price for the *320GB*
version (£233).

Anyone know of a 'technical diference' reason for that, or is it just
one of those 'supply & demand' things?!

That's certainly the case for the three PSB muxes, but at Midhurst the COM
muxes will not reach full power until April 18th (COM 5) and June 15th (COM 6)

Hannington's COM 4 will not have much eastery coverage until April 4th, with
COM 5 and 6 following on April 18th.

In Midhurst's case this is to protect pre DSO transmissions at Guildford and
Tunbridge Wells, and at Hannington it's for Guildford.
