We have four identical brand-new turbines clearly visible from the
kitchen windows. This morning three are feathered so the blades are
edgewise on to the wind, but one is turning, at 12rpm. I wonder why the
one is different.

Leave a video camera pointed at it ready for when it catches fire ...

Maybe there is some restriction on the capacity of the link to the grid, and
normally, without this kind of mad wind, it would be a slow output from all,
but now one on its own is generating the limit.
I trust they do know the limits of the system or you could end up with a
heap of debris shortly when the blades fall off or the gearbox seizes.

Not necessarily TOT, if they were in direct LOS between you and Emley!

The restriction is generally on windspeed.

If they don't feather them this happens:

[which includes a rather impressive picture of flaming debris raining down
from a wind turbine]

Yes I heard about that one, but the problem today was the gustiness of the
wind, the average speed was normal, if a little fast, but some of the gusts
were extremely violent.

Whitehall muppets have overridden our local (Krklees) council's decision to
refuse permission to build a 2MW single turbine a stone's throw from the
M62/M621 junction, sited within 2km of around 20,000 residents, the nearest
just 400m away. Some countries won't allow building of such turbines within
2km of ANY homes.

If you are familiar with the "dalek" building in Leeds, this turbine is
taller. The hub is 80m up and blades are 45m long. The dalek buildin g
(Bridgewater Place), Leeds' tallest building, is just 112m tall.

Building work is now proceeding; could be interesting to see the effects
once it starts working.

That's disgraceful. So dangerous! And the noise! Why the hell do they
have to build them near homes?

As always, H & S is only imposed when it suits the powers that be.
