When I go to France my (analogue FM) car radio gives the title of the
piece of music playing. Why doesn't this happen in the UK? Another Dave |

My car radio can also display the optional text RDS text that is usually only available on non vehicular sets, but even this is fairly static. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |

Another Dave As already stated this is just the RDS text system which most UK FM stations transmit if you have an enabled car or portable (eg my Pure One DAB/FM) receiver. Usually UK stations display general info about the station or programme as well as traffic reports but some (eg BBC Radio 1 on 98.5 FM) often display details of the record playing exactly as you observerd in France. |

I'm a snob; I don't listen to Radio 1, only to Radio 3 and (sometimes) Classic FM. Often I listen to a piece of music for 40 minutes wondering what it is. Surely Radio 3 know what they're playing in advance? Another Dave |

It does on Radio 2, the title of the record appears in the radio text field, but only on live programmes, doesn't seem to happen on pre recorded shows, which indicates the system is probably linked to the server that plays out the records in the 'live' on air studios. London's Melody Radio (long since swallowed up and reduced to drivel) was doing this way back in the early-mid 1990s. It's only appeared relatively recently on Radio 2. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |

You should get a Peugeot, my 2008 407 displays the radio text field in all its highly distracting scrolling glory. I had to enable the feature when I set the radio up after buying the car, I dare say I'm breaking some UK law or other, and someone will be along in here shortly to rap my knuckles. I'll add it to the other apparent offence of having Test Card W as my desktop background. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |
