Default Humax 9300 & 9150 fault

On a couple of fora I view there are reports coming in of a possible
fault with the Humax 9300 & 9150. Usually of not responding to the
remote. One poster reports being No. 34 in the humax helpline queue!

Now there is currently a repeat OTA for the 9300 till Friday 0900. Not
a co-incidence I'm sure.

I suspect the OTA hiccuped or was/is faulty.

Does anyone have any further news or a fix!?

Unless I read things wrong, the repeat 9300 OTA update was on the 5/6/7th
December. Anyways, having missed the original and second updates, my 9300
updated OK on the 5th and seems to be working fine; certainly no probs with
the remote.

There seems to be a raft of problems with Humax PVRs. I hope they
would use some form of validation to ensure that the update is only
installed if intact.

They do repeat the OTA updates regularly AFAIK so this is probably a
conincidence.

Well I don't know, but I have two and I never have the slightest problem.

A suspicion is that it is not the latest, repeated update (1.00.026)
that had a bug but that a DTT platform change upset 9300s & 9150s on the
older software.

1.00.026 was intended to correct the PVR freezing bug. Several extra
OTAs of 1.00.026 have been slotted in.....

Important notice PVR-9150T, PVR-9200T, PVR-9300T issues

This received today..

Dear Trade Partner,

Some broadcast changes were made on the UK DTT platform today which
has caused the above models to lock on one channel after being on for
35-45 seconds. Unfortunately this will mean the remote control will
not operate until the product is switched OFF at the mains and back on
again, but the problem will continue to happen.

Products are only affected if they are on old software (manufactured
before June 2010) and have not received any Over Air download.

The only solution to the issue is to carry out a software update via
the menu as per this link, either using the Automatic or Manual update
procedure. Products that are left in standby overnight during the
model’s OAD broadcast, will update automatically.

Please can you also advise your customers to leave the products in
standby overnight on a regular basis as this is the only method of
guaranteeing future software updates..

The following Over the Air Downloads have been booked so you will need
to advise customers to carry out the update for their models during
the times the updates are on air. After the update is received and
installed there should be no further issues

That had me temporarily confused. The June 2010 date refers to the
hardware. The latest software for the 9200T (PGXTF 1.00.23) is actually
dated earlier: 20th May 2010.

The only solution to the issue is to carry out a software update via
the menu as per this link, either using the Automatic or Manual update

All this does seem to show up the complex world Mr & Mrs Consumer find
themselves in, with little done to ease the technology burden! With the
eco brigade going on about switching stuff off to save the planet, just
how do you get folk to leave STBs, idTVs and PVRs on standby.
And of course there's no mechanism to actually get the planet savers to
leave stuff on standby on the relevant nights!

There is one very effective mechanism. It's the invoice for the service
call. Keen environmentalists are generally obsessively skinflint.

How do record stuff after you have gone to bed without leaving it on
standby?

I just leave mine on all the time - no standby. Does this mean I won't get
the OTA? My software is dated 7 July - on a 9150T.
