Incidentally have you asked yourself this question -- Why do I need to buy a USB device to do this, when I could just run the software directly from the hard drive? Then when you have answered that question, think about whether or not what is being sold is effectively a "scam" package for the gullible. http://www.mirrorreaderoffers.co.UK/item-pp-d4114/usb-internet-tv-and-radio-player/ |

peter wrote... Zenox Internet TV Player. Has anyone had any experience of these devices? An elderly neighbour bought a similarly advertised thing from a TV shopping channel and asked me to install it for him. It was a total rip off. He paid £2.99 + £7.99 postage and for that he got a 512Mb USB memory stick containing an absolutely dismal piece of software. It was basically a just a listof links to online TV & radio stations most of which were out of date and didn't work and some were unwatchable poor quality rubbish being being illegally streamed from somewhere, the player itself was useless. All of the stations were already available just by going to the broadcasters website. I checked out the USB stick itself with USBDview from http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html and it was dog slow at reading/writing so wasn't even much use as an overpriced memory stick, what a waste. The old guy just wanted to watch the main UK channels anyway so I set them up in his favourites and showed him how to use iPlayer etc. Are they any good? See above:-( Any streaming TV/Radio player is only as good as its database of stations. For radio IMO the best is TapinRadio which has a huge categorised station list and can record. http://www.raimersoft.com/tapinradio.aspx For TV my favourite is JLC's Internet TV http://www.jlc-software.com/?page=internet_tv.html Not much experience with this, I use it for watching news channels now and again, video plays in hte program itself or can be set to use your local Media player. -- Ken O'Meara http://www.btinternet.com/~unsteadyken/ |
