I suspect you mean sphygmomanometer. Can see why doctors would need a
spectrophotometer. Not many of their patients glow. ;-)

I recall the small ads for them in the back pages of certain Sunday
newspapers. Also the Fresnel screens to turn a 14" portable into a 26"

Definitely not water!

I drilled a hole in one once to find out - what came out of it was a
viscous clear fluid.


Possibly liquid paraffin (as sold by many chemist shops for un-bunging
internals).

....or externally as a hair oil.
