I am reminded of the 1960's Con of a short aerial that was soldered onto a big capacitor that promised to greatly improve your 405 line reception. I remember those. I must admit that as a youngster making my first xtal radio set, I actually made one of those in a muddy cardboard box and puzzled on why it didn't work.
