Same woolly sounding dialogue again on tonight's episode. Made even more
obvious at the end by the continuity announcer coming across the closing music at painfully high level, and extremely bright sounding. Wonder where Zen is dubbed? Perhaps they need their speakers set up properly. -- *Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool* Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

Watching an earlier episode on iPlayer I couldn't make out a lot of the dialogue. -- Richard |

I think his point has some validity, although maybe Zen has taken the idea a bit far! |

In general usage 'dubbing' = dialogue replacement In Film / TV usage 'dubbing' = final audio assembly + mixing Guy |

But on Zen it's a technical quality thingie. When personal (radio) mics are used in this sort of thing, it's normal to apply mid frequency lift in the dub to counteract the effects of layers of clothing, etc. To me, it sounded like they were simply used 'flat'. There was a bed scene where a boom mic was likely used but even that was lacking in top frequencies. -- *No husband has ever been shot while doing the dishes * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

I watched it on BBC1 HD via Virgin HD cable and heard no problems with the audio. Perhaps you're not as critical. ;-) I listen through a very good external sound system. If it were a fault at 'my' end, there wouldn't have been the vast difference in quality and level between Zen and the continuity announcement over the closing titles. Anyone else see it on Virgin HD? -- *Real women don't have hot flashes, they have power surges. Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

Don't know of any recorded drama that hasn't had a sound dub for the last 40 years or so. That's where any sound problems are corrected and the music and effects added. If it had been dubbed into a different language, there'd be even less excuse for the appalling sound quality. -- *OK, who stopped payment on my reality check? Having worked in pro audio , film and TV for over 30 years I would say I'm critical enough ;-) I was listening to it via my Bravia's internal speakers... If it were a fault at 'my' end, there wouldn't have been the vast difference in quality and level between Zen and the continuity announcement over the closing titles. Not suggesting it's your end - but there may be differences between various feeds and various TX paths/systems. Is Zen produced in surround sound for HD? Is it possible that the stereo audio feed was taking the wrong mix or channels? It did sound OK on Virgin HD cable. Anyone else see it on Virgin HD? |

Same woolly sounding dialogue again on tonight's episode. Agreed. Many places where it was incomprehensible. Anyone know what Zen said to the outgoing Inspector as he got into the lift near the end of the episode? -- Jeff |
