So Al Jazeera English cannot be full of "wogs" then, can it? In fact non of the London News Presenters - Felicity Barr, Nick Clark, Stephen Cole, Hamish MacDonald, or Barbara Serra could be put in that category. They are all caucasian, and for the most part, they all look stereotypically Anglo-Saxon. The left has always been famous for its po-faced inability to see humour. Bill |

It's odd really because for the lst two days I've been working in a place with a wide assortment of foreigners in it, and they have Freeview there but no satellite (strangely). I noticed that a lot were using the various foreign TV and radio stations, but I didn't see Al Jazeera. About twenty of the tellys were new so they must have it tuned in. Freeview has "Al Jazeera English" which is a service that is in competition internationally with BBC News CNN, etc. It isn't "foreign" in the way that perhaps the company's Arabic service might be. -- Peter Duncanson (in uk.tech.digital-tv) |

I just think that they should try to be a bit more balanced. The news and current affairs programmes are usually quite OK; it's the light entertainment that annoys me. All this politically correct lefty liberal greeny ********, yet they take the **** out of people for being old on a regular basis. The BBC pushes onto us the values of the metropolitan middle class young professional, ignoring the values that many of us elderly bucolic working class horny handed sons of toil despise. I suggest you watch Ajazeera instead. Not bloody likely, it's full of wogs. Golly! After reading this, I've got a mental image of a cage-full of gorillas called "The Aljazeera Wogs". They live in a zoo with "Political Correctness" the zebra, "Double Standards" the lion, a termite colony known as "The Silent Majority" and a lonely, overfed walrus called "Indigenous Accidental Cock Haemorrhage". LOL! Poor Bill... --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |

This does happen. However a lot of schools can work within this framework if they keep on top of the maintance, particularly if the buildings are not old. Repairs can sometimes be taken out of a different budget if they are needed for H&S reasons but this is also limited. It looks like this budget will be further reduced next year, but I don't yet know. What a brilliant policy It stinks. Particularly since the government is going to finance new school builds without proving there is a need for them. Yet repairs to existing schools will be neglected. OK, show me one photograph of a politician opening a Re-roofing/Re-wiring/replacement window fitting project for the council office/school/community centre etc I would suggest that organisations would not ask a politician to such an event, because repairs do not really have an "opening" as such. The buildings are probably in use during the works. Our MP has visited local schools on receipt of awards, opening of new classrooms, ICT suites etc. But I agree. The government is looking for headline grabbing, vote winning projects and not real improvement. I suggest you will be hard pressed to find one - and this isn't a political point - any flavour of politician will do. On another non-political point - just how much did the last government spend on the maintenance of schools? No more I would suggest than the last Tory government did. I don't have the figures. However the current government have completed scrapped the last governments "BSF" project and not replaced it with anything. Many schools were relying on this money and had already done a lot of work in preparation. Now schools have to join the Tory exclusive "Academy" club to get money and no-one, AFAIK, really knows the details of this scheme. It seems to me like a rehash of the Grant Maintained School status of the last Tory mob. The politician gets his moment of glory at the opening ceremony of the new school, and that's it. Nothiing more will be heard from him until the roff leaks and the windows start to fall out There are a small number of politicians that do not fit into the category. -- (\__/) M.
