For those interested, there are "Freeview Brand Guidelines" on the Freeview
website - and the EPG is not required for SD products, but is for HD products. Paul DS. |

I thought that might be the case, however, people have come to expect the standard "Freeview" EPG to be available on any receiving device (TV, STB, whatever) that it could be seen as misleading advertising for a maker to fail to mention that a product does not support it. -- Peter Duncanson (in uk.tech.digital-tv) |

I am just wondering if the whole story is that the likes of Panasonic
get paid by "Guide Plus" for using their guide as it carries advertising and that "Guide Plus" can sell their advertising space if they can go to the advertisers telling them that their guide WILL be seen by all Panasonic owners ? |

The GuidePlus web-site says that BidTV is the digital channel that carries the data on Freeview. According to DTG, this will not be on a Public Service Mux post change-over, so users on PSB-only relays will not be able to receive it. Does anyone know different? I was looking at a Panasonic DVD/HDD recorder to go with a relative's Viera, but I'd want some assurance on this before buying a device that would be useless. Would Panasonic accept a return as "not fit for purpose" if the channel isn't available? You'll have to download and study the user manual I'm afraid. I recently bought a Panasonic DVDR and it's got the proper Freeview EPG, so not all Panny products use Guide+. -- Max Demian |

Because Panasonic TVs (and possibly whatever equipment the poster has) do not permit the use of the standard Freeview EPG. Paul DS. I haven't looked into the legal side of this but I'm surprise that it is possible to use the Freeview name for a box that does not offer the normal Freeview EPG. Certainly the Sony DVD/HDD recorders can work with either Guide+ or the Freeview EPG. If the OP wants to use the box to control a sky box, for example, Guide+ is the only option. |
